4 Outdoor-Friendly Hair Styles

Here are four outdoor-friendly hairstyles that look great in any weather.

The rain, the humidity, that annoying wind — these are some of the worst hair offenders known to man. Here are some adorable ways to give those pesky outdoor elements the heave ho, and rock some great hair while outside.

1. The Top Knot
The top-knot style is still going strong, and with good reason! It's one of the only styles that is both super easy to accomplish and trés chic. I wear my top knot year-round, but am especially appreciative during the sweltering summer months when all I want is to get that hair off the back of my neck. There are several ways to achieve a top knot, but my favorite (and simplest) way is demonstrated in my video tutorial. It's a great year-round staple.

2. The Braided Headband
Many people assume that an outdoor-approved hairstyle needs to be some sort of updo, but that certainly isn't the case. If you prefer to leave your hair down, but are looking for a way to keep your bangs or the front of your hair off your face, try a simple braided headband. If you are a braiding expert, you can French braid the front of your hair from temple to temple. But my favorite technique involves pinning a regular ol' braid across the top of your head.

3. The High Ponytail
I can't help but conjure up images of mid-century beach bunnies out by the water with high, bouncy ponytails. A high ponytail is a fun, timeless look that is nearly impossible to mess up. Just gather all the hair at the crown of the head, use a boar bristle brush to smooth out any snags or bumps, and then secure with an elastic. Added bonus? Once your hair is up, roll the ponytail with one or two heated rollers for about five minutes. When the rollers are released, you will have a truly voluminous, bouncy ponytail.

4. Beachy Waves
Some of the best hair days for ladies are born from days spent at the beach. There’s something about letting the salty air and ocean breeze take over that creates such a lovely, carefree look. Spending a day outdoors is the perfect time to show off some textured waves. Quickly spritz a wave-enhancing product onto your damp hair and let it air-dry, and you'll be out the door in seconds flat. Tip: Don’t try to over-style your waves. The messier they are, the better!
