4 Easy Tricks for More Youthful Hair

4 Easy Tricks for More Youthful Hair

Combat the signs of aging on your tresses with these 4 effective ideas.

By: Debra Steilen

Unlike skin, your hair doesn’t broadcast its age with wrinkles or spots. And there’s more than just gray hairs. If your hair is dull, dry, brittle or thinning, this may mean that your hair is showing the biological effects of aging. Plus, the years of torture from blow driers, curling irons, flat irons, perms, hair dye, lowlights, highlights and more don’t help.

But don’t fret — here are four simple ways to make your tresses look up to 10 years younger.

1. Restore Moisture to Your Hair
As you get older, your hair loses some of its elasticity, both naturally and through exposure to elements like UV rays, chemical-based treatments and heat. These factors create a perfect storm for causing brittle hair, which results in breakage and split ends.

Make damaged hair a thing of the past with a Pantene Age Defy Rejuvenating Hydration Masque. Apply all over hair, focusing on the ends or other areas that show weakness and damage. Leave on as long as you like, then rinse thoroughly. This intense formula helps restore healthy hydration levels in your hair that you may have lost over the years.

Tip: Go easy on wet hair, that’s when it’s most fragile. Use your towel to blot excess moisture, rather than rubbing hair dry, and detangle your hair with a wide-tooth comb.

2. Make Your Hair Look Thicker
You may have noticed your braid or ponytail looks less full, or that your scalp is all too visible where you part your hair. Sometimes this visual change is due to actual hair loss (think breakage, or the after-effects of stress or menopause). Sometimes it’s the reality of aging hair follicles that produce thinner, smaller hairs.

Pantene Age Defy Advanced Thickening Treatment plumps up existing hair strands and guards against breakage. Just spray the roots of wet or dry hair, then massage in with your fingertips and style. Use daily for hair that looks fuller and feels thicker.

Tip: Take a break from tight topknots, vigorous backcombing and other styling ideas that put stress on your hair’s roots and encourage breakage.

3. Bring Back Your Hair’s Youthful Shine
You may not be getting the same great results from your styling regime anymore. Why? Because you’re not working with the same quality of hair you did years ago. For many women, dullness and dryness are both part of the hair’s aging process. Oil glands shrink, the amount of oil that naturally coats the hair diminishes, and hair becomes stiff, dry, and dull as wear and tear damages the outer layer.

Try Pantene Age Defy Conditioner to fight the signs of timeworn tresses. Use this conditioner all over your hair to strengthen it. Leave it on as long as you like, then rinse, style and admire your hair’s smoothness and shine.

Tip: Use your blow dryer’s coolest setting. Try to avoid any styling processes that strip aging hair of its natural oil.

4. Give Your Hair a Smoother Finish
You’ve found your first gray hair, or you’re dealing with a head nearly full of gray hair. That’s because starting in your 30s or 40s, aging hair follicles start making less of a pigment called melanin, and your hair goes gray or white. It’s not that gray hair can’t be beautiful — it certainly can. (It’s your call as to whether you want to add color.) But along with turning gray, aging hair can become wirier and less manageable.

Help fight these signs with Pantene Age Defy Shampoo, which harnesses the power of your daily shower to tame unruly gray hairs. Just lather once and rinse. Best of all? This shampoo, which is gentle enough for those who color their hair, also helps protect hair against damage.

Tip: The wirier your hair becomes, the greater the risk of damage from friction. Use a wide-tooth comb for detangling. If you want to use a brush, choose one made with flexible boar bristles to redistribute natural oils and moisturize hair strands.
