5 Super-Easy Tricks for Making Unwashed Hair Look Perfect

Don’t have time for a shower? No problem! Try these super-easy hair hacks.

I used to wash and dry my hair pretty much every day. Thinking about it now, it sounds crazy luxurious. I mean, who has time for that, whether they have kids or not?! With an infant and a 3-year-old, I'm more of a shower-a-few-times-a-week kind of gal these days. But I won't lie: Despite the fact that I rarely leave my house in these freezing cold months, I still care what my hair looks like.

Don't have time for a proper wash and blowout each day? You're certainly not alone.

Here, five super easy tips to get great-looking hair without the shower.

1. Use dry shampoo. Simply spray a dry shampoo (like Herbal Essences Color Me Happy Dry Shampoo) onto your roots and rub in like you're shampooing your hair. It will absorb the oils on your scalp and get rid of that greasy look. If I have time, I like to then give my hair a quick blast of hot air with my dryer and a few fluffs with my round brush. (Actually, I sometimes like my hair better this way than when it's freshly washed.)

2. A fishtail braid. I know what you're thinking: A fishtail braid? Those look so hard! Trust me, they're not. If I can do them, anyone can. (Look online for a video of how to do it and you'll be amazed at the simplicity.) Anyway, fishtail braids are a cute, trendy alternative to the braid when you've got hair that hasn't been recently cleaned. Also, these kinds of styles tend to take much better to hair that is a little dirty, so it's the perfect time.

3. Just wash your bangs. If you've got bangs, simply washing them -- and just them -- can seriously transform your hair. Bangs, after all, are the most prominent part of your hair. On the days when I don't have time to wash my hair (and nothing else is doing the trick), I stick my bangs under the faucet (it's quite a sight!), put the tiniest bit of shampoo on them, and dry them. I either leave my hair down, as I immediately look more "done," or pull my hair back into a messy ponytail. None the wiser about my unwashed mane.

4. Get a good hat. If you don’t wash your hair every day, you need -- no, need -- to invest in a good hat. Not only do hats conceal unwashed hair better than anything else, they're incredibly cute! I always feel a little extra put-together when I leave the house with a hat on -- even if it is just to hide my dirty hair.

5. Use a texturizing hairspray. Wave-enhancing, texturizing hairsprays give hair a beachy, messy look, and goodness are they fantastic. Unlike dry shampoo, which masks the "dirtiness" of your hair, making it look polished, these products magically transform your hair into a piece-y, sexy 'do -- they're awesome. It's perfect if you don't have time for a shower or have hair that leans toward the frizzy side. It's like a beach in a bottle. Seriously, tell me how that can be a bad thing!
