How to: 3 Fall Hair Trends to Follow

Freshen up your hairstyle with these step-by-step looks straight off the fall runway.

By: Sarah Pottieger

Excited to try out a new hairstyle this fall but aren’t sure where to start? Here’s the how-to on a few of our favorite styles, straight off the fall runway.

1. The Un-bun
Shake up the classic ballerina bun and go for this messier do. For this look, imperfection is key.

  1. Brush and pull hair back to the center or top of your head, wherever you want your bun to end up
  2. Holding your hair in a ponytail, begin to twist hair down in a spiral from top to bottom
  3. Wrap your twisted ponytail into a bun and secure with a thick hair tie — don’t worry if pieces of hair are sticking out from the bun; it’s all part of the look
  4. Secure your bun further with several bobby pins

Tip: To loosen overly taught hair (that is not part of the bun), gently tug on random sections of hair using your fingers or the end of a comb to give it a wispy vibe.

  1. Keep your wisps voluminous and humidity resistant with Herbal Essences Body Envy Volumizing Hairspray. Spray your whole ’do for a look that won’t need readjusting

2. Soft and Sleek
Looking for a new fall hair color? Tone it down. Soft browns and golden or pale blondes are the way to go. For a new hair color, try Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Hair Color. Follow these steps to style your new look.

  1. After blow-drying your hair, use a flat iron — simply section your hair off and straighten in small sections from root to end
  2. Using a comb, part your hair down the center. Once hair is parted, straighten hair near the part by beginning at the root and pulling straight out, away from the part
  3. Tuck hair behind ears or allow it to fall alongside your face, whichever you prefer
  4. Use a finishing spray that adds shine to set your look

3. Playful Ponytail
Great for a second-day look or when you want your hair out of your face, this season’s ponytails are just as cute as they are easy.

  1. Start by using Pantene’s Sheer Volume shampoo and conditioner to give your ponytail the oomph it needs
  2. Blow dry hair upside down, for added volume
  3. Part hair or pull straight back into a mid or low ponytail. Secure with an elastic

Tip: Want a more sporty look? Using black hair elastics or ribbon, continue to tie off your ponytail every inch, depending on the length of your hair.

  1. Finish off your look with Pantene Pro-V Extra Strong Hold Hairspray
