Try this chic (and easy) hairstyle on game day for a fun look.

With the biggest football game of the year right around the corner, it’s time to get cranking on game-day preparations. Comfort food, friends gathered around the television — it’s a great time to relax and hang out, not worry about your hair.

1. Prep
Generally, braids and updos work best with second- (or third-) day hair. Hair that’s too squeaky clean can fall out of braids easily, so you want to make sure your locks have some texture. This works perfectly in regards to the big Sunday game — have a girls’ night out Saturday and your hair will be in perfect condition come Sunday!

2. Gather
Gather all hair on one side underneath the ear. For braiding novices, you can secure the ponytail at the base of the neck with a clear hair elastic. You can cut the elastic later for a looser look. Split the hair into two even sections (as opposed to the three you’d use in a regular braid).

3. Begin Braiding
Take a small strand of hair from one section and bring it over to the other side.

4. Criss Cross
Take a small strand of hair from the other section and bring it over to the opposite side.

5. Repeat and Finish the Braid
Repeat steps 4 and 6 until the braid is finished. Secure end of braid with hair elastic.

This braid will be perfect for your football party: chic and stylish yet totally hassle-free for hostessing, cooking and cheering!
