Whether you are wearing flip-flops, wedges or strappy sandals, there is just one summer rule-of-thumb: Your feet need to look picture perfect at all times! Monthly pedicures will do the trick, but they can get pricey. Here are some tips on keeping your feet in tip-top shape right at home.
1. Rinse and Repeat
When wearing sandals, your feet can pick up lots of dirt without you even realizing it. The warm temperatures can cause sweaty feet, which isn’t the best condition for your toes. To keep your feet looking and feeling their best, always give them a good wash and rinsing after wearing sandals. Follow up by slathering on a thick moisturizing lotion to avoid cracked heels and any other dry spots. It sounds so simple, but doing this every day will make a noticeable difference in the softness of your feet.
2. Massage and Soak
Most open-toed shoes don’t always have the best support for your feet. So when shopping for a pair, try to find some with a thicker sole for better arch support. If a long day of wearing sandals leaves your feet feeling achy and tired, soak them in warm water. But to reduce any swelling after a hot summer day, soak your feet in a tub of cold water for about 10-15 minutes instead.
Another way to sooth tired feet is to give yourself a mini foot massage. Adding a drop of peppermint oil to your moisturizing cream provides a refreshing sensation as you work it through your tired feet.
3. Perfectly Polished
It’s easy for polish to chip when your toes are exposed, so changing your toenail color once a week can give your toes a fresh new look. Remember, your feet will be getting much attention while wearing those cute new sandals and you won’t want chipped nails to detract from them.
