10 Indulgent Skincare Treatments

10 Indulgent Skincare Treatments

If you need a pick-me-up, try one of these 10 indulgent skincare treatments.

Indulgent skincare treatments are fantastic after a long flight, a business trip where you've been away from your regular routine or just for a Sunday pick-me-up. Here’s a list of some to try out at home or in a salon.

1. Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion can do wonders for skin's tone and texture. For the procedure, aestheticians use a mechanical medium (like a fancy diamond-head tool) to exfoliate and gently remove the outermost layer of dead skin cells from the skin. The at-home versions use a combination of Vitamin C, peptide resurfacing crystals and lactic-acid activating gel to exfoliate. Best of all, it only takes three minutes and yields super-smooth, soft skin.

2. Homemade Body Scrub
Julia Coney, editor of allaboutthepretty.net, shared her recipe for an amazing at-home scrub. (Just be sure to put garbage bags on the floor, as it gets pretty messy.) Mix brown sugar, olive oil and ground oats into a paste. Apply and rub the paste vigorously into to arms, legs and other dry areas. Rinse it off in the shower and voilà — lovely skin will be yours.

3. Hydrating Mask
For dry, normal or aging skin, a once-a-week moisture infusion — in the form of a cream mask — is a perfect skin revitalizer. I also love to apply one that you can wipe off with a tissue before getting on a plane. Just be careful to warn your seatmates that you're masking in-flight in case they look at you funny.

4. Oxygen Peel
Looking for a quick pick-me-up? These peels deliver a shot of oxygen to immediately pep up your skin, perfect for when you're feeling lackluster and tired. (Think too little sleep and too much coffee.) Oxygen peels are a regular treatment of mine during weeks with lots of deadlines.

5. Vitamin C Mask
Sure, you can drink orange juice to your heart's content or you can benefit your skin directly. There are peel-off iterations and thicker, gooier ones. Pick your Vitamin C mask of choice and enjoy the orange-scented peel.

6. Soothing Eye Pads
Have you noticed your under-eye concealer is just not doing the trick? It's time for an eye pad. Just five minutes with one of these is enough to restore your under eyes to their former plump glory. Look for pads infused with hyaluronic acid for best results.

7. Cucumbers On Eyes
These are the DIY version of the above. Find a quiet place, stick two slices of cucumbers on your eyes and relax for 10 minutes. Puffiness and dark circles will be dramatically reduced. Cut up the rest of the cucumber and enjoy a fresh salad.

8. Glycolic Treatment
A glycolic treatment is an excellent way to address acne and fine lines. Glycolic acid loosens the bonds holding dull, dead, or discolored skin cells in place and encourages them to slough off so new skin cells can rise to the surface. Glycolic acid also penetrates deep into the skin to counter aging by increasing collagen production. It'll even lighten skin discoloration. I indulge in one every week or so.

9. Sonic Cleansing
I cannot praise these gadgets enough. Using one a few times a week with your regular cleanser will get your skin incredibly clean. Partner it with an exfoliating scrub and you've got an at-home spa. Sonic cleansers can be expensive. Purchase one that can also be used on the body and you'll get your money's worth.

10. Facial Mist
The easiest of the bunch, a hyaluronic acid-infused spritz is just what the dermatologist ordered. Mist to refresh makeup and give skin a much-needed drink — they’re perfect for travel, too. You can even make your own with tap water and a spray bottle. Couldn't be simpler or less expensive, right?
