4 Tips for Accentuating Your Beauty

Enhance your natural beauty and age gracefully with our simple tips.

While younger women view makeup and beauty products primarily as a way to hide their flaws, mature women know the best beauty routine is one that emphasizes your favorite features. For aging skin, there’s no need to focus on covering up your problem areas. Instead, try implementing these proven tricks to enhance your natural beauty.

1. Embrace Your Age
While it’s tempting to focus on covering up your imperfections, you are actually better off highlighting your best features. If you aren’t sure what they are, start by taking off all of your makeup and looking at yourself objectively in the mirror. What do you see that you like? Full lips? High cheekbones? Long eyelashes? Ask your friends and family for their input, too. Once you’ve determined your best features, plan your beauty regimen around them.

2. Moisturize Daily
A good moisturizer is essential at any age, but even more so once you reach your 60s. Because our skin loses oil glands as we age, it retains less moisture in our later years and tends to become dry. By using a product like Olay Total Effects Anti-Aging Daily Moisturizer SPF 30, your skin will feel smoother and look brighter. And over time, it will help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Washing your face every night and drinking plenty of water each day can also help to keep your skin well hydrated and give it a healthy, natural glow.

3. Wear Less Makeup
It may seem counterintuitive, but as you age, remember that less is more — especially when it comes to makeup.

Avoid heavy layers of foundation and concealer because both can settle into the fine lines and creases that you’re hoping to cover up. You can still use these products, but do so sparingly and be sure to blend well.

4. Soften Your Makeup Palette
Just as you should wear less makeup as you age, it is also wise to soften the color palette of the makeup you do wear. You’re aiming for a soft, dewy glow that accentuates your natural skin tones, so stay on the neutral side of things.

Forego dark liquid liners and heavy lipsticks in favor of a light eyeshadow and a tinted lipgloss. If you really want to accentuate your eyes, invest in an eyelash curler — your lashes will draw attention but still look completely natural.

The goal of a good beauty routine for a mature woman is simply to brighten and freshen up your natural look without highlighting or drawing too much attention to the problem areas we all have. By taking care of your skin and embracing the less-is-more makeup philosophy, you can achieve a look of effortless beauty — and most importantly, feel fabulous.

I like to play up my age by having fun with my hair. I'm lucky because I have wavy hair and can just let it go. With the cut I have I can also straighten it also for a more sophisticate look. My cut in also right at my chin line which does some hiding of certain facial feathers and helps my face to look slimmer.
