Summer is upon us, and we couldn’t be happier. Time to break out the shorts, skirts and dresses, plan picnics and grill-outs, and hunt for a new pair of shades for lounging poolside. And while you’re switching up your wardrobe and making summer plans, take a look at your summer beauty regimen, too – as the weather heats up, the sun can take its toll on your skin and hair.
But don’t sweat it! We’ve got you covered with seven must-have products that will help you look and feel gorgeous, healthy and glowing from head to toe.
Oil can build up and clog your pores during the summer, so exfoliation is essential for maintaining a smooth complexion and removing dead skins cells and grime. However, exfoliating in the morning can make you more susceptible to sun damage during the day, so skip it in the morning if you’re planning to spend the day outdoors. Instead, add exfoliation to your nightly skincare routine with the ProX by olay advanced cleansing system, which not only gently cleanses and exfoliates your skin, but also sets it up for a night cream like Olay total Effects anti-aging Night firming cream.
2. Body scrub
Don’t forget to use an exfoliating scrub on your body! Improving the tone and texture of your skin can give you a boost in confidence – and glowing skin to boot – for the days you’re planning to spend lounging by the pool. Regular exfoliation sloughs away dead skin and helps with circulation, too. When using your scrub, pay extra attention to elbows, knees, ankles and toes. If you’re a fan of self-tanners, make exfoliating part of your weekly beauty prep to achieve a smooth, natural-looking color.
3. Hair color protector
If you regularly dye your hair, you know that sun exposure can fade your color like no other. Help prevent fading by using a shampoo and conditioner specially formulated for color-treated hair – we recommend Pantene Radiant color shine shampoo and Foam conditioner to help hydrate, protect and enhance your colored locks.
4. Tinted Moisturizer
Foundation gets sweaty and can build up in your facial creases in the heat. If you’re tempted to ditch it, try a tinted moisturizer – like olay total Effects daily Moisturizer + touch of foundation – to even out your skin tone, cover redness and give you a natural look. Though they’re lighter than traditional foundations, tinted moisturizers can provide fantastic coverage and work on different skin types and tones.
For those days – and nights – when you’re getting more dressed up, apply a primer after your moisturizer and before your makeup to prevent your foundation from sliding off when your face gets sweaty in the heat. Choose a matte-finish primer that refines your pores – you’ll look less shiny and more polished.
If you’re fair-skinned, you might be tempted to forego sunscreen in the hopes of getting a sun-kissed glow. But that’s a seriously bad idea! Your skin ages faster from sun exposure, and you’ll end up with hyper pigmentation spots and sagging skin. In intense sun, you should wear sunscreen with at least spf 30 and UVa and UVB protection. To fake that glow, brush a little matte bronzer that’s three shades darker than your usual foundation across your forehead, cheeks and jaw, where the sun would naturally hit your face. Don’t forget your daily moisturizer, either. Olay Regenerist Whips spf 25 has a light-as-air finish, an anti-aging moisturizing formula that reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and broad-spectrum spf 25 to protect your face from those harmful rays.
7. Foot scrub
Don’t let calluses keep you from wearing those cute sandals! Instead, reach for an exfoliating foot scrub and a cooling foot cream. To soften calluses, use a metal file on dry feet once a week before getting in the shower. Move the file from the outside to the center of calluses to avoid creating rough edges. Then remove the rest of the dead skin with foot scrub. After your shower, moisturize your feet with a cooling foot cream. Don’t have time for a full pedicure? Keep your feet sandal-ready by clipping and shaping your nails and applying a few coats of summery pink nail polish.
