During fashion week, everyone oohs and ahhs over new collections. There are pieces that we've never seen before. And outfits we just can't wait to wear. But it's not just about the designer's masterpieces, it's also about how each item is styled on the models. And you can learn a whole lot but taking tips from fashion week styling. Here are some of our favorite style tricks from the Fall/Winter 2013 collections:

1. Maxi Skirts & Sweaters
A new trend we saw on the runway was maxi skirts paired with sweaters. We absolutely loved how one designer showed how the trend could work for an evening affair with crystals and silky fabrics — while other designers played with more casual materials for day. This is a great styling trick you can easily do at home. If you don't have a long skirt, you can fake it by layering a comfy knit over a maxi dress. Talk about getting more use out of one item!

2. Monochromatic Color
Dressing in head-to-toe color is extremely flattering, especially for trickier shapes like peplum. At one show, a model even came down the runway in all gold! Utilize what you have in your closet to try out this trick. Of course, black is the easiest, but take a risk with some color this season. Just remember to keep your accessories neutral.

3. Dress Layering
A great way to get more use out of sleeveless dresses is to layer long-sleeves underneath. Remember that the layer closest to your skin should be the tightest. So look for sweaters that have a thin knit and hug the body.

4. Texture Mixing
You can achieve an extra luxe look by mixing textures. And chances are, you probably already have various textured pieces in your wardrobe! Layer a tweed jacket over a silk blouse. Then add a jacquard trouser or even a pair of jeans. When mixing textures, it's easiest to stick to the same color family.

5. The Ponytail
Many designers tied back the models’ hair into simple ponytails. This is so easy to do when you're having a bad hair day. It's also great to show off your neck when you're wearing a higher neckline or a turtleneck. For a feminine touch, add a ribbon bow.

Quick Tip : Add inches to your frame by dressing in head-to-toe color.
