Fitness gear has come a long way over the years. Gone are the days of coordinated sweat and wristbands. Designers have finally realized that women want clothing they can wear both to the gym and around town post-workout. And boy, have they delivered! If you’re looking for some new fitness inspiration, here are five new trends to try.

Prints
We’ve seen prints reign on the runways and it’s no different in the workout world,” says fitness blogger Whitney English of To Live & Diet in LA. “From athletic shoes to yoga pants, geometric shapes, tribal prints and even camouflage are taking the spotlight.”

Once you’re done working out, throw on a solid sweater tunic or long cardigan with a pair of flat knee-high boots and you're good to go for a day of errands!

Cutouts
Cutouts aren’t just for dresses. Many athletic companies are featuring the design on sports bras and yoga tanks. Some feature an open back with criss-cross designs, while others use mesh inserts for a trendy statement.

The Skort
Skorts are gaining popularity in the fashion world. And according to English, it’s happening in fitness, too.

“Obviously the skort has always been popular in tennis,” she says. “But now we're seeing it pop up on the golf course and even on the track!”

You can easily dress up a skort for a casual, after-work dinner by throwing on a cute top or sweater, booties and a statement necklace. Talk about multi-functional!

Active Eyewear
It used to be that sunglasses for working out were extremely comfortable but not exactly stylish. Luckily, that fad has passed.

“We’re seeing brands that used to only make functional sunglasses for outdoor sports trying out more feminine and funky styles,” says Whitney. Her favorites include lightweight trendy plastic sunglasses with tortoise prints and oversized frames. “They’ll protect your eyes, stay put and you can feel confident wearing them to coffee with your friends afterward.”

Neon
Fluorescent colors may have temporarily taken a back seat on the runways, but in the gym they're more popular than ever! A pop of color is a great way to brighten your day as you work out. Try a neon sports bra under a sheer tank. Or, invest in a pair of neon sneakers to give your old, black fitness gear an instant update.
