Go Lush with Your Lashes

Go Lush with Your Lashes

Get longer, fuller, lusher lashes with these 5 easy-to-follow steps and tips.

Let’s be clear; many of us would choose mascara as our ultimate beauty accessory if pushed to pick just one item. With open, lush and full lashes, your eyes look bigger, you feel put together and ready to take on the world.

False lashes need not apply. We’re talking about maximizing the real thing. Creating bright eyes for a night out, or even to run errands. Because sculpted lashes give you that extra pep in your step – even if you’re just in yoga pants (again).

Luscious, Lavish Lashes

Step 1: Create Curvature
If you have lashes with little curl, get a boost by using an eyelash curler. Curling lashes at the base draws the lashes upward, brightening the eye area.

Tip: Do this before applying mascara to prevent the curler from sticking to your lashes or pulling them out.

Tip: If the curve is too harsh (or you have really long lashes), curl again mid-shaft and again on the end – this will round it out.

Step 2: Buff and Plump
Before applying mascara, dust a little translucent powder on your lashes with a small, fluffy brush. This will plump up the lashes by giving the mascara a little more to grab, so lashes will appear thicker.

Tip: For an even fuller effect, dust on another layer of powder in between the first and second coat of mascara.

Step 3: Start at the Roots
The key to thick-looking lashes begins at the roots. Start by applying mascara at the base of the lash line, pushing upward and in a zigzag motion.

Tip: Start from the outer eye and work your way in. This creates volume at the base and will enhance the curl, which makes lashes look longer.

Step 4: Layer on the Lush
Add length and fullness by applying at least two to three coats of mascara, plus a little powder in between coats for an even more pronounced look. The trick to avoiding clumps is to wait until each application has fully dried.

Tip: Waterproof mascara tends to be a little stickier and can clump more easily. If you do happen to fall victim to clumping, just use a lash brush to smooth it out once it’s dry.

Step 5: Nighttime Maintenance
Mascara can only do so much. Protect and maintain lashes by removing mascara at the end of each day. Sleeping with mascara on dries out lashes and makes them brittle. It’s good to use a makeup remover that not only conditions, but also gently removes mascara without damaging your lashes.
