6 Staples for Vintage Beach Style

Check out these six pieces that revive the vintage look just in time for the beach.

Everything old is new again. So this summer, why not look to the past when planning your beach attire? With a few key pieces, you can channel a retro pin-up princess in no time.

1. Prints
A bold print can instantly give you a bit of retro beach glamour. The two key prints to remember are polka dots and stripes. When it comes to colors, either go Americana with navy and red, or extra bright with yellow and pink. Black and white is also a great option.

2. Sunglasses
It's all about the cat-eye frame when it comes to retro sunnies. Since this style has been around for a while now, don't play it safe. Instead, opt for a minty fresh pastel or even a bold printed pattern! Luckily, there are so many options available that you can play around with a few different affordable frames for the season.

3. Turbans
While we all love a good straw floppy hat, change is always welcome in fashion. And the turban can be an incredibly chic (and functional!) beach accessory. Just search "How to Tie a Turban" and a plethora of tutorials will pop up on your screen. A full turban can help shield your hair from the sun, which protect highlights. If you're too scared to do it yourself, just try a turban headband over a bun or ponytail.

4. High-Waist Bottoms
A higher waist instantly adds a retro flair. For shorts, try a sailor short in navy to hop on the nautical trend. For swimwear, use a high-waist bottom to your advantage. It can majorly lengthen the leg! For a more modern feel, pair it with a sweetheart bandeau top.

5. Shoes
Instead of flip-flops, slip on a pair of skimmer sneakers when you head to the beach or pool. They're extremely comfortable and give that 1950s feel. Not a fan of sneakers? Try an espadrille!

6. Feminine Accents
Look for anything that has a bow. Try bringing a parasol with you in your beach bag. Basically anything girly will help achieve that retro look.

Just remember; You don't want to look like you stepped out of an old movie. Focus on one retro-inspired piece, and then pair it with modern accessories: gold jewelry, a sleek beach bag and a stylish cellphone case. And don't forget the sunscreen! Pin-up beauties always had healthy complexions.

Quick Tip: Polka dots instantly bring a retro touch to any beach look.
