A few weeks ago, the color forecasting experts at the Pantone Institute announced that, for the first time ever, there were not one, but two colors of the year – Rose Quartz and Serenity.

The idea behind the blending of two shades (a soft ocean blue and dusty pink) could somehow combine a color family that acts to relieve stress in modern life. According to the Pantone website: “Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.”

I feel more relaxed just reading that.

So What Does It Mean To Have Colors Of The Year?

For the most part, you’ll probably start seeing a lot of clothing popping up in either one of those shades or the two combined. And unlike baby’s rooms or clothes where there’s a rigid blue or pink distinction, in fashion it’s pretty much unisex and will travel from clothing to home furnishings.

If you’re feeling timid about trying the shades, introduce them into your wardrobe in the smallest ways possible – a scarf or hat will completely update your look without running into a small fortune. In your home, new bath towels or even bedding can add to the serenity without a major commitment.

If Pink And Blue Aren’t Colors For You?

Pantone has also introduced its Top Ten list of colors that will be popular in 2016. According to the site, the choice of colors were in part “influenced by the world of art, new global doors opening and the desire to disconnect from technology and unwind, designers this season have gravitated toward a palette that is first and foremost calming.

Paying Homage To The Beauty Of Natural Resources

“Colors emerging in the Spring collections serve as vehicles that transport wearers to more tranquil, mindful environs which encourage relaxation first, followed by curiosity and exploration,” Pantone said.

Two other shades that don’t go the traditional route for spring are what Pantone refers to as Iced Coffee a very strong and earthy neutral, and Green Flash an extremely bright and clean shade of green. You can wear either or both of these shades together or combine with what’s already in your closet or home. Think camel coats, neutral wispy shawls in lightest coffee shades or even brightly colored green gloves as you make your way through winter.

The nice thing about color is that for a minimal investment your home and your wardrobe can look of the moment without spending a fortune!
