Get the Look: ’60s Chic

Here’s a modern take on the chic hippie look.

By: Sydne Summer

Whether you’re attending a music festival or a family BBQ, adding a dose of 1960s flair instantly amps up your style. And luckily, it’s quite simple — all you need are a few key pieces to mix and match with what you already have in your wardrobe. Get ’60s chic with these six items.

1. On-trend Kimono
A huge trend this season is the kimono. The lightweight jacket is perfect for days or nights when you want a little something to throw over your shoulders. There are plenty of bright printed options; but if color isn’t your thing, go for a neutral and play with sheer panels and fringe. You can wear kimonos with shorts, jeans and even dresses!

2. Effortless Makeup
When it comes to beauty, the 1960s are all about looking effortless. Start with a CC cream, like Olay Total Effects CC Cream, to smooth out your skin. Then add blush and plenty of bronzer. (You want to look like you were relaxing in a field of flowers all afternoon!) For your eyes, go fairly natural with your shadows, and then apply mascara. Finish your look with a favorite nude lipstick.

3. Classy Sunnies
A round pair of sunglasses gives that classic folk rock feel. Avoid anything too kitschy like flowers or clear plastic. Instead stick to black, tortoise or gold for a more sophisticated look.

4. Sun-stopping Hat
Hats instantly bring out a boho appeal. And there are so many options! You can go floppy with an oversize straw topper or bring that festival vibe with a Panama style. Added bonus: You can protect your face from the sun while you look stylish!

5. Gold Jewelry
Layer, layer, layer! Pile on as many delicate gold pieces as you have in your jewelry chest. If you want a pop of color, turquoise gives that hippie feel and looks gorgeous with your summer white or nighttime black.

6. Effortless Locks
For hair, get loose waves by prepping your locks with a styling mousse, like Aussie Aussome Volume Styling Mousse. After curling, spray a healthy dose of volumizing hairspray, like Aussie Aussome Volume Hair Spray. Flip your head over and shake out the curls. It’s the perfect style to go under a hat or worn on its own.
