How to Fake Brighter, Clearer Skin

Discover the secret to flawless skin with these 5 steps.

Want stunning skin that begs for a close-up? For smooth, flawless skin, you need only a few products and a little technique. Here are five tried and true ways to achieve a Hollywood-worthy visage.

1. Primer
Facial primers act almost like double-stick tape. They create a gripping but velvety texture to set and keep your foundation in place. They also help fill in lines and wrinkles without creating obvious creases.

2. Foundation
Foundation is the best way to create the look of gorgeous, glowy skin. One that blends well, covers yet disappears into skin, giving you a natural look.

Make sure to sweep it all the way down to your neck and blend for a natural effect.

Tip: Start from the center of the face (the T-zone; forehead, nose and chin) and slowly blend out from there using a foundation brush. Then, take a damp sponge and lightly tap it all over the face to ensure there are no harsh lines.

3. Highlighter
A little luminosity goes a long way. With your fingertips or a sponge, dab on a small amount of white, pink or bronze-hued highlighter along your brow bone (underneath the brows), on your nose (stop about halfway to avoid making your nose look longer than it is) and above the Cupid’s bow of your upper lip. This subtle sheen imparts a pretty candlelit effect and makes the lips look fuller.

4. Bronzer
For winter, select a shade a few hues darker than your skin tone, but lighter than you’d want to rock in the summer. For easy application, use a big, fluffy brush. Remember that a little goes a long way.

Tip: Apply it starting at the temples in a “3” motion from your temples to under the cheekbones to underneath the jawline. This will slim the face and casually contour.

5. Blush
You can always pair bronzer and blush, contrary to popular belief. I like to add a small “pop” of color to the apples of my cheeks using a pink powder blush.

Tip: Use a small, fluffy brush to better direct the hue exactly where you want it.
