How to Properly Apply Your Eyeshadow

Whether it’s an everyday look or a smoky eye, here’s how to apply your eyeshadow.

Whether you’re a seasoned pro looking to up your game in eye makeup or you’re just needing a quick go-to for your everyday look, knowing how to correctly apply eyeshadow will not only take guesswork out of your routine, it will enhance your overall look, too!

Read on to find two options that will give you a stunning look no matter what the occasion.

Classic Purple-Bronze Eye for Daytime

1. Sweep an eyeshadow base or primer over your entire eyelid (primers and bases make the color more noticeable and keep the eyeshadow on longer)

2. Mix a light gold and a copper shadow together, lightly dust over your entire lid and blend

3. Cover the lower half of your eyelid with a dark brown shade up to the crease line, working outward, and then blend

4. Apply a purple shadow to your eyelid as close to the lash line as possible, blending outward along your brow bone contour

5. Line your upper lash line with a black liquid liner, as close to your lashes as possible, to add definition

6. Apply two or three coats of lengthening black mascara to your top lashes and one coat to your bottom lashes as a finishing touch.

Tip: It’s best not to cover your entire eyelid with a darker shade — use the crease of your eyelid as a guide.

Tip: Brown eyes look great with almost any eyeshadow color, but you can make them pop by pairing a softer shade (such as purple) with a darker shade along the crease of the eye. Add a dark, liquid liner and your eyes will look better than ever!
