As Spring gets a little closer, it’s time to start thinking about a few ways to update and glamorize your wardrobe — without spending a fortune.

Although fashion changes yearly, there are always pieces you count on to instantly stay trendy each season. The key is finding what works for you. Figure out what colors work best and what pieces look flattering on your body type.

Updating for Less
The first place to shop for anything is your own closet. Shopping here first can save a lot of money. For instance, that old leather skirt might just need to be shortened a little to be perfect for this season. Get old clothes refit at a tailor, or even do it yourself!

Stop by your local thrift stores. There are sometimes amazing name-brand items that need minimal alterations to look great, and, while it can be hit or miss, you never know what you will find. Now that you know how to shop, here are a few suggestions for what to shop for:

1. Jeans
It is a good idea to get a new pair of jeans each year as trends change. Shop for something cute and trendy that doesn’t break the bank. Nowadays, you can often wear darker jeans with a more formal top (to dress it up) and with almost anything else if you’re going casual.

2. Denim
If denim is something you love, look for it in more than just jeans. This tough fabric is used in items that can be appropriate for work, you just have to find them. Dress it up with modern accessories to keep the look fresh and count on your denim clothes to last well into the future.

3. Blousy T-Shirt
A blousy T-shirt can be worn so many ways that it may just end up being one of your most-worn items period — a definite yes for revamping on a budget.

4. Accessories
Jewelry and handbags on trend can always be found for reasonable prices. Spiky, chunky jewelry can update any look. Grab lots of bracelets for instant glamor.

Look for clutch handbags in various colors and sizes. This spring, bags are large, boxy and in a multitude of materials. Grab your favorite clutch, throw your stuff in and you are ready to go.

Colorful scarves can instantly update your look with minimal cost. Buy several in your favorite colors and wear them frequently. Scarves are a great way to add a punch of floral pattern, color-blocking, emerald green, lace, or any of the other spring trends for maximum impact with minimal cost.

5. Jackets
Jackets this year run the gamut when it comes to style. The Boyfriend jacket is back with a little more tailored look, and no-nonsense mamas can rejoice: Motorcycle jackets were all over the runway this year as well. We even saw the Varsity jacket.

You will find prints, leather denim and much more when it comes to jackets. Find one you love and make it your signature style.

You can definitely update your wardrobe for less than $100, but you need to be strategic. Buy things you love and things that look good on you. But mostly, enjoy yourself. Fashion should be fun. Happy shopping!
