The 5 Must-Pack Staples to Get You Through Vacation

These five must-have fashion staples will keep you looking fabulous on any trip.

Traveling is exciting. You wait weeks, even months, to depart on your special destination. But days before your trip, your nerves start to kick in. Questions begin running through your head at a hundred miles per hour. What should I pack? What should I wear on the plane? What if I forget something?

First, take a deep breath. Next, take out a pad of paper and jot down the essentials so you don't forget to pack them: Underwear, drug supplies, phone chargers, socks, driver's license, etc. Now that the basics are out of the way, we can move on to the key fashion staples you’ll want to have on hand to get you through your trip:

1. A Lightweight Jacket
I always travel with a lightweight jacket during the spring or summer months. Pick a neutral color that will go with everything. A safari jacket in olive or khaki is very on trend this season. A denim jacket is equally as versatile. If you're going on a dressier trip, bring a black or navy blazer. You can wear it with a T-shirt during the day and with dresses at night.

Pro traveler’s tip: Avoid packing jackets with too much hardware. They can weigh you down when traveling.

2. Skinny Jeans
You never know whom you'll run into on the plane. So instead of traveling in sweatpants, I like to wear stretchy skinny jeans. If you find a pair in a thin material, they are just as comfortable as leggings.

Pro traveler’s tip: Steer clear of wearing pants or jeans with buttons on the back pockets. They will make for one uncomfortable plane ride!

3. T-Shirts
Always bring one T-shirt for every day you’ll be traveling. I like to pack the basics: White, black, navy and striped. You can roll them up and wear them with just about everything. I'll often pack an equal amount of statement necklaces so it looks like I'm switching up my look every day.

Pro traveler’s tip: When you find the perfect tee, make sure to buy multiples!

4. Basic Dress
Whether it's black, navy or even orange, you'll want to bring at least one dress with you while traveling. You never know when you'll have an impromptu dinner date!

Pro traveler’s tip: Opt for a jersey material so you don't have to worry about your dress wrinkling.

5. Walking Sandals
Even if you board the plane in sneakers, always bring along a chic pair of sandals. I like to go for a nude or taupe color to elongate my legs. That way, you can wear them with dresses, skirts or pants from and transition them from day to night.

Pro traveler’s tip: A sandal with a small wedge is often more comfortable than a flat.
