The #EverydayEffect and Everyday Beauty

See what happens when My Black is Beautiful sets up shop to give out tips and touch-ups.

The word “beauty” can mean so many different things. Whether it’s about confidence, happiness or having the perfect look — or a blend of it all — beauty is ultimately an expression.

And that’s why My Black is Beautiful, a program that proudly celebrates and connects black women across the country, is hard to define. In some respects, it’s about pride, self-esteem and confidence, but it’s also about starting a sustained national conversation.

As part of the #EverydayEffect Live from New York City event, P&G's My Black is Beautiful traveled to Harlem June 19 and was the place to share beauty tips and relax with free mini-makeovers.

The response was incredible.

Makeup was applied, hair was being styled and nails were painted, but the real beauty was seeing the community gather and share tips among its members. Women in the community joined together with everyday ideas and stories of how and when they feel their best.

It has been a beautiful example of the #EverydayEffect in motion, as this experience box goes well beyond simple looks. Stories and real advice have made for an even greater impact, one that will still be felt long after June 19.

My Black is Beautiful is airing a documentary, “Imagine a Future,” which takes on the issue of self-esteem and self-image among black women that will air on BET on July 5 at 10 p.m. EST and 9 p.m. CST.
