Use these tips to plan a romantic night at home.
Finding quality time with your mate often ends up on the back burner, but connecting is really important — and doesn’t necessarily require a weekend away. Read on to learn how to reinvigorate that bond by orchestrating a cozy night in.
Step 1: Clear the Decks
Make sure there are no conflicts — like work deadlines or early-morning meetings — that might cramp your plans.
Step 2: Get on the Same Wavelength
Rekindle memorable moments by drawing from the past. Did you meet on Cinco de Mayo? Whip up a batch of guacamole and tamales. Take a trip back to your honeymoon in Italy by creating a play list of Italian love songs, or pull out those old photo albums when you were high school sweethearts.
Step 3: Change Things Up
Move your dream dinner to the dining room or the floor in front of the fireplace. If the weather’s nice, plan a night under the stars on the patio, or throw a picnic blanket and some pillows on the lawn. Be sure to light plenty of candles to set the mood, wherever you dine.
Step 4: Take it Easy
Nothing kills romance like stress, so don’t get hung up on your evening’s menu. When thinking about what to make, skip anything complicated or time-consuming. Hit the local gourmet shop, and let someone else do the cooking. (And definitely be prepared to let the dishes sit in the sink overnight!)
Step 5: Don’t Forget Dessert
If you’re going to indulge, you may as well go for it. Chocolate comes in many forms from easy-baked brownies, which can be dressed up with homemade whipped cream and chocolate shavings, to simple squares of pure dark chocolate. Or what a perfect night to (finally) use that fondue set you got as a wedding gift — melt some chocolate and have strawberries, cut-up bananas and marshmallows on hand to feed each other. Yum!
