5 Themed Picnics for Every Week

Try these simple but creative ideas on the weekends for a month full of picnics.

Take advantage of sunny days between spring showers by spending some time outside. Spring is the perfect time to have a picnic! Pack up your favorite foods, dishes and a cozy blanket and head to a beautiful park or sandy beach. Nothing is more relaxing than a weekly weekend picnic, soaking in the views, enjoying the sunshine and eating your favorite treats.

To prevent the picnics from being stale, plan a different themed picnic for a group of friends, family, or even just to enjoy by yourself. Here are few picnic themes to try.

April in Paris
Imagine you’re sitting on the banks of the Seine River or in a beautiful Parisian park. Pack a classic striped blanket and soft pillows for cushion. Bring fresh flowers in small vases to decorate your picnic area to give it a French feel.

As for the menu, fill your picnic basket with your favorite cheeses, cold cuts, baguettes or crackers. A bottle of lemonade or sparkling juice is perfect for the light meal. Pack fresh fruit and make a quick quiche. And don’t forget dessert! Stop by your favorite bakery and pick up a dozen French macarons. Bon appetit!

Carnival Fun
This theme is great for the whole family. Make a few bright pinwheels for decor and fun. Bring games (or even use this blanket that doubles as a game!), bubbles, ring toss or other games to play outdoors.

Pack a feast of corn dogs, pretzels, popcorn, and throw in a salad for good measure. Think of all your favorite carnival foods and bring them along. Don’t forget the sweets — like cotton candy, candy bars (which you can fry if you like) and donuts. You can even set up a candy station on a picnic table — perfect if your picnic turns into a party.

Perfectly Pink
Let the girly girl in you shine. Gather your daughters or best girlfriends and throw a pink-themed picnic! Pink blankets, utensils, flowers and all pink foods.

Indulge in smoked salmon, grapefruit, watermelon, strawberries, pink cupcakes and anything else in this pretty hue. Have a nail painting party or mini photo shoot to show off pink outfits, too. You’ll definitely add color to the park! (If pink’s not your thing, you can do this with any other color.)

Tea Party
Put on your best sundress and big pretty hat for tea party picnic in the park! Make gloves and lace mandatory attire and ask the boys wear cute bow ties. You can serve hot tea in dainty teacups or tall glasses of iced tea for this picnic.

Be sure to make little tea sandwiches, bring along scones with jam or marmalade and an array of cookies, cakes and brownies. High tea in the park never looked so good!

Classic Barbecue Picnic
There’s nothing wrong with throwing a classic backyard-barbecue style picnic. Bring on the hamburgers, hot dogs and potato salad.

If there’s a barbeque pit or grill nearby, even better! Why wait until summer to have a classic picnic with a red gingham blanket and all your favorite summer treats? (All that’s missing is a firework show!)

Go out enjoy the sunshine and fresh air with a picnic this season. Bring along speakers or a stereo and your favorite playlist. Toss on a big floppy hat and enjoy great food and great company.
