From gardening to spring cleaning, these moms truly look forward to spring with the kids.

Spring is, understandably, many people’s favorite season. The weather is often just right (not too hot, not too cold, not too buggy or humid), and the kids are happy to be outside after being cooped up inside all winter -- and happily, they are also still in school! What a wonderful time of the year! Most moms agree that spring is a great time to enjoy new activities, explore new places, and discover new things with their kids, too.

Here, nine moms share the seasonal family activities they love best. I’m excited and inspired to try some of these great ideas soon with my kid. Maybe you will, as well!

1. “We have a family tradition where we hike up a mountain in Vermont, near the home where I grew up and my parents still live, right when the leaves first pop out on the trees. Everything is turning bright green. It’s always a highlight of the year for me. We climb up the side of a small waterfall, and it’s just so beautiful and refreshing.” -- Natasha, mom of 2

2. “I get my kids to help me spring clean our home, and it’s the one day of the year they have fun helping me. I hide tiny treats around the house for them to discover while they dust and mop. I give them each a bucket and clean sponge and rags, and we blast some music, and laugh a lot, and then, order pizza or go out to dinner. It’s a great way to welcome spring together.” -- Rachel, mom of three

3. “We go on a sort of special scavenger hunt each spring in the meadows near our home. The kids get to each use a digital camera, and whomever can spy the most animals and snap their picture wins a prize. There are always cute baby rabbits and deer sometimes, and frogs and turtles near the little stream and pond. Butterflies count too, and a birds’ nest is a huge bonus because you can get a bunch of baby animals in one shot. It’s really fun.” -- Heidi, mom of 2

4. “My favorite spring activity hands-down is gardening with the kids. All winter long, we discuss our new garden plans, and look at seed catalogs and learn about new things to grow. As soon as we can, we start digging, and planting. The kids love harvesting their own fruits and veggies. It’s so exciting to get started again.” -- Eileen, mom of 4

5. “Our favorite day in spring is the day the local ice cream stand opens for the season, at a dairy farm near our home. It’s the world’s best ice cream, and we all wait for it all winter long. The lines are absurd, but it’s lots of fun. I feel like each year, our kids get bigger and bigger ice creams, too!” -- Mel, mom of 2

6. “We go on a road trip each spring vacation somewhere new. Once, we went to Washington and visited the White House! We plan it months ahead, and it’s always one of our favorite times of the year. This year, we’re driving to Texas to see the fields full of blue bonnet wildflowers, and eat some real BBQ. I can’t wait!” -- Whitney, mom of 3

7. “We go camping! I love camping in spring, because it’s such a treat to be back out in nature, after long cold winters cramped inside with cranky kids.” -- Tara, mom of 2

8. “We love to make spring pizza. We buy the dough, and each person gets their own half a ball. We have fun stretching it into whatever shape we each want, and choosing our own toppings. My older daughter loves lots of basil on hers. My youngest one likes to make patterns or faces on her pie with veggies like tomatoes, olives, and zucchini.” -- Grace, mom of 3

9. “I love going berry picking with our daughter. We pick flowers and asparagus and snap peas, too. And we go on a hayride and bring a picnic. It’s just so nice to be outside again, in the sun. And the fresh food tastes soooo good! I look forward to it all winter long.” -- Hannah, mom of 1
