Summer at My Rhythm in Chicago!

Nena F. Enjoys Summer at Your Rhythm in Chicago.

The city feels alive with the sound of music and the aroma of city cuisine. I don’t know about you, but summer is my favorite time of year. I say this because during the winter, with the bitter cold, you don’t feel like going out. As for me, walking through the streets and squares reminds me so much of my beautiful Mexico. That’s why it’s important to feel free at any time to enjoy this beautiful season in my city, without any worries.

I am delighted to work alongside Orgullosa to share this summer at my rhythm, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

As a Latina, I cannot think of a better way to enjoy a summer evening than with the family.

Last week, my husband and I stole away for a night of entertainment and fun at the heart of my beautiful city of Chicago. We started off by eating at one of the best Mexican restaurants in town, "Mercadito," and you could feel the energy in the atmosphere. There was music, and the smell of Mexican food filled the air; we were struck by the place’s liveliness as soon as we arrived!

As the good Mexican that I am, I take pride in my great taste as it relates to traditional appetizers and the tacos at “Mercadito” didn’t disappoint me. These are some of the most creative and delicious ones I've tasted! The restaurant has a wide variety of sauces and ceviches, and if you drop by to spend an afternoon there, I definitely recommend you order the lobster ceviche, which was our favorite!

Making our first stop at this colorful restaurant was the perfect way to start our evening.

Then we went to the famous Navy Pier boardwalk, where we walked hand-in-hand through the shops and streets of this alluring venue, which also features outdoor attractions and rides, and the gorgeous view of the city and skyscrapers, together with Lake Michigan, make for an amazing contrast!

Something unexpected in our evening was the change in the weather and the rain that came, and if there’s something we Latinas do well, it’s adapting to any circumstance no matter the situation or location. We know how to make the most out of everything. Talking about unforeseen situations, the last thing you need on a night out is worrying that "those days" should ruin enjoying summer at your own rhythm. So I always make sure I have a Tampax in my bag, because during summer I don’t want anything to stop me from wearing what I want.

If you have the chance to visit the Navy Pier, don’t miss the boat tours that end with a magical moment watching fireworks over Lake Michigan. See some ideas on how you can celebrate summer at your rhythm in your own city.
