Your Guide to Smarter Shopping

Ditch the stress while you shop for clothes with these helpful tips.

For many women, it is an outright nightmare to run around from one store to another — especially if you have children in tow and a long list of things to do that day.

Whether you promised to get yourself a new garment every month or you’re just looking for a way to add some newness to your closet, use these tips to cut down on time and stress.

Decide What and Where
Decide what you are going to buy and what stores you should go to before you leave home. That way you won't have to waste time and energy walking back and forth through the whole mall or driving to different stores around town.

Do a little preparation before you leave, too. Dress and do your makeup the way you would when wearing the clothes you’re looking to buy. Need a new work outfit? Use your weekday regimen.

Limit Yourself if You Bring the Kids
Let your children know in advance about how many stores they’ll be going to — a maximum of five is usually about right — and thank them for their patience with a little reward or a trip to the park (weather permitting, of course). Make sure to bring some books or games to keep them busy while they’re waiting.

Try Shoes on More Than Once
When you’re buying shoes, always try them on later in the day. Feet swell up during the day, and trying the shoes on after you’ve been walking around throughout the day can make sure they will fit under all circumstances.

Buy More Than One
If you find something you really like — that both fits well and comes at a good price — it is always a good idea to buy more than one of it. This is especially true if it’s something you’ve been wanting for a long time (a nice black dress for example) or an essential (solid tops or undershirts).

With these tips, you should be able to stay on task and still acquire some new outfits sure to turn heads!
