It’s graduation time again, which means those invitations are piling up. And so is your gift list. Instead of the go-to cash and a card, why not send those freshman off with some useful stuff to stock up their dorm rooms?
These themed gift ideas will help your grads survive that first official step into adulthood. And maybe even keep them from bringing home a giant load of laundry at Thanksgiving. (We can dream, can’t we?)
Loaded Laundry Basket
Learning to do your own laundry … The classic rite of passage into the college years. Make it as foolproof as possible for them with detergent pods, fabric softener, in-wash scent booster, dryer sheets and plenty of quarters.
You can even give them a fresh new set of bed sheets. (They might not ever wash them, but it’s worth a shot!)
Shower Essentials Caddy
Sharing a bathroom with dozens of other students is, let’s just say, a less-desirable reality of college.
So give them all of their favorite essentials – shampoo and conditioner, a big soft towel, scented body wash and buffer, brand new toothbrush, the whole nine – and pack it in a caddy they can tote to and from the bathroom. It’s the closest you can get to being pampered while wearing plastic shoes.
Dorm Room Cleaning Kit
Most college kids don’t even think about cleaning their room until the day before Parent’s Weekend. But still, every new student needs some basics to help them clean up in a hurry, like a handheld duster, easy sweeper, paper towels, fabric refresher for those sheets they never wash and, of course, air freshener.
While you’re at it, might as well grab some nice, soft toilet paper. Way better than the thin dorm-bathroom stuff. Comforts of home, anyone?
