10 Crazy Funny Baby Name Suggestions From Older Siblings

10 Crazy Funny Baby Name Suggestions From Older Siblings

Ask a soon-to-be older sibling for baby name ideas, and you never know what you might get!

By Wendy Robinson

When I was pregnant with my daughter, one of my biggest concerns was how my son, then 4, would react to getting a new sibling. To my happy surprise, he was very excited and wanted to be involved in as many aspects of preparing for the new baby as possible. This included, unfortunately, naming the baby. Though I am sure she would have grown into it, I just felt “Princess Leia Chewbacca Silly Bottom Robinson” was a lot of name for a new baby, so we opted not to give our son naming rights as part of the big brother duties.

My son wasn’t alone though, in terms of big brothers and sisters with, err, unique baby name ideas:

1. “Catie (age 4) wanted to name Lucy ‘Lady Gaga.’” -- Cindy W.

2. “The big boys (ages 5 and 2) wanted to name baby sister ‘Ms. Frizzle.’” -- Rachel S.

3. “Jack (age 9) wanted us to name Tony ‘Sticks & Stuff.’ Like, [he] was SERIOUS about it.” -- Sara L.

4. “My nephew (age 7) wanted to name my son ‘Colonel Mustard’ or ‘Joe Boxer.’” -- Leandra N.

5. “My son (age 5) was dead set on ‘Lando Bart’ for his baby sister.” -- Krista N.

6. “My childhood BFF (age 11) wanted to name her brother ‘Tire Gauge.’ Her mom named him Tyler Gage. She was pretty mad her mom was having a baby and gave a flip answer when asked for input -- her mom showed her!” -- Tessa K.

7. “My kids (6 and 4) really thought we should name Lydia ‘Beautiful Princess’ -- even though we didn't know if we were having a boy or a girl.” -- Elsha V.

8. “Brigid (almost 3) wanted to name Caitlin 'Eeyore' when we asked her. We didn't, obviously, but we narrowed our list down to five and Brigid ended up making the final decision. We didn't mean to do it that way, but she was SO ADAMANT that the baby was ‘Caitlin.’ And she was right. Also, she wanted to name her new cousin ‘Pink Water Bottle,’ so I figured we were ahead of the game with ‘Eeyore.’” -- Tara L.

9. "Julia."

"Sweetie, it's a boy, and that's usually a girl's name. What about, oh, Julian or James?"

"NO. JULIA." -- Roberta Z., whose 3-year-old had some strong opinions.

10. “My niece, who was 15 at the time, thought we should name our new baby ‘Eclipsa BabyGirl.’ I felt bad about laughing in her face but not that bad.” -- Sue T.

The lesson from all of this? Let your bigger kids name their pets or stuffed animals, but leave the baby naming to grown-ups!
