10 Women Share What Keeps Them Feeling Young

Getting older doesn’t have to mean getting old. Check out these easy ways to stay young.

Most women I know would jump at the chance to shave a few (or more) years off their current age. Whether you want to look younger or just feel younger (who doesn’t want smoother skin and the energy to stay up past 10 p.m.?), the good news is you don’t need plastic surgery or a time machine to recapture the youthful glow of days gone by. We asked women what keeps them feeling young, and their answers read like an inspiration manual for your mind, body, and soul.

1. “Remembering to play! Not just with my kids (although I do enjoy that), but in my own life. I go down the waterslides at the local pool, I hike, I do bad paintings just for fun.” -- Wendy R., 36, St. Paul, Minnesota

2. “I’m going to say finding out what the young people are listening to today. There’s a gaping hole in my knowledge of pop music from the past eight years, but I think it’s going to be fun filling that back in, teeny-bopper style.” -- Christine D., 41, Greenbelt, Maryland

3. “I like hanging out with people who are older because I feel young. And when I hang out with younger people, I do young things.” -- Emily K., 26, Calgary, Alberta

4. “Doing improv! I don’t know that I look or feel (physically) any younger, but acting like a kid is fun.” -- Sarah W., 33, Vacaville, California

5. “Sunblock, all year round on my face, and up to 50 SPF in summer.” -- Jackie M., 42, Brooklyn, New York

6. “Setting (and working toward) new and scary athletic goals. There’s something about accomplishing something at 30-whatever that I never even dreamed possible 10 years ago that makes me think, ‘Well, I just can’t be THAT old if I'm still kicking butt, right?’ Plus, in triathlon and swimming, I'm surrounded by people in their 50s, 60s, 70s (and up!) who are amazing and inspiring, so it takes away my fear of aging somewhat, which, I think, somehow makes me feel, well, if not young, ageless.” -- Kristen S., 35, Gainesville, Florida

7. “Traveling and planning vacations. I love the escape from everyday life. I also love sightseeing and exposing my kids (and myself!) to new things.” -- Elizabeth B., 38, Corpus Christi, Texas

8. “My sense of humor has deteriorated to that of a 5-year-old’s [because I have one], so I laugh a lot.” -- Rebecca M., 32, Dublin, California

9. “Going to dance class and being able to keep up with the routines ... rather than stumbling.” -- Kat W., 33, Redwood City, California

10. “Date night! Going out with my husband without the kids reminds us who we used to be.” -- Ashley P., 39, Albany, California
