11 Kids Reveal What They Love Most About Their Best Friends

Kids love their best friends for the most unusual reasons. But hey, whatever works!

By Lorraine Allen

Childhood friendships are magical. Sometimes they can last a lifetime. Other times, they are volatile and tempestuous, filled with all the passion and conflict of an adult drama. But either way, they are very important, and also very meaningful and precious to our kids. Those friends, especially the ones they call their very best friends (at least at this moment), connect with them in ways that parents and even siblings cannot. I asked 11 kids to share what they love most about their BFF, and here’s what they said:

1. “She gives me hugs. When I was sick she wrote me a letter and brought me clementines. I wish I could live with her!” -- Nora, 6

2. “My best friend, Mike, can build anything with Legos – cars, trucks, robots. He’s really cool.” -- Lee, 8

3. “I love Audrey because she speaks English in a different way. She’s from London. That’s why she’s my best friend.” -- Sylvia, 5

4. “We both run like really fast so we race all the time at recess and in the park and it’s fun because sometimes I win and sometimes he wins.” -- Arlow, 7

5. “My best friend, Arlene, is the best because she never bothers me. She’s always nice.” -- Jean, 6

6. “Pete is my best friend because he is so funny.” -- Robert, 10
