11 Moms Reveal What They Don't Miss About Their Life Before Kids

Women share the things they gave up when they had kids, but don’t miss.

When I found out that I was pregnant, I was worried about three specific things. Never sleeping late again, living in a constant mess, and falling behind in my career. It’s funny because once my daughter arrived and I settled into a routine -- I loved getting those extra hours in the day by waking up at dawn. I became an ace at multitasking and straightening up my living room before the baby demanded my breast. And I found a steady pace with my freelance writing career that allowed me to work and stay relevant without putting myself in a constant state of stress. It still amazes me how those very changes that I feared actually made my life better once I became a mom. Here, 11 other moms share the things they surrendered when they had kids—and don’t miss at all either!

1. “The thing that I don't miss is being alone. Before kids, I could do what I wanted when I wanted. But now I always have a pal or two to do those things with. Don't get me wrong: I love my alone time, but I do love spending time doing things with my kids.” -- Michelle B., Rockland, New York

2. “I surprisingly do not miss my husband before kids. I loved him so much -- then we had kids and watching him with them makes me love him and appreciate him so much more!” -- Mary M., Norwalk, Connecticut

3. “I don't miss spending on myself. I used to spend an obscene amount on purses, shoes, and such.” -- Michelle T., Darien, Connecticut

4. “I do not miss sleeping in on the weekends. I only get to spend a few hours at the end of the day with my daughter during the week, so getting to wake up early to the sound of her babbling in her crib on the weekends is the best. It is just Mommy-Daughter time for a few hours until the rest of the house wakes up. It's my favorite!” -- Erin H., Daytona Beach, Florida

5. “I used to cook (as opposed to just prepare). Don't miss it a bit.” -- Tamara C., Tampa, Florida

6. “I don't miss having only myself to think about. That probably sounds weird, but I like knowing my life means more than just what I'm going to wear that day or what conversation I may have said something wrong in or what I'm going to ‘do’ with my life. She reminds me that I have a very important and awesome purpose, and I would never trade that for anything.” -- Marielle W., Stamford, Connecticut

7. “I don't miss staying out late. I use to go to sleep after 2 a.m. every night before kids. Don't miss that at all!” -- Jen A., Orlando, Florida

8. “I don't miss that hyper career-oriented me. The one before kids who wanted the brass ring at a young age.” -- Bonnie H., Miami, Florida

9. “Clubbing! I know it sounds cliche or silly, but I just don't miss it. It's not like we were always out, mainly one night on the weekends, but I look back now and just don't miss any of it.” -- Alice C., Charleston, West Virginia

10. “I don't miss working out and staying in shape. As much as I'd like to fit into my old jeans again, I'd rather spend my free time with my son.” -- Jessica R., Gainesville, Florida

11. “I don't miss obsessing about my appearance as much as I did before having kids. This is not to say I have accepted looking like a slob every day, but knowing that I have two little babies to worry about and they love me no matter what I look like puts things in perspective. Not having my eyebrows waxed for a few weeks isn't the end of the world.” -- Kristen B., Bellerose Village, New York
