12 Kids Share their New Year’s Resolutions

If they pull these plans off, watch out, world—we’re in for some big changes!

A new year and a fresh new start are things everyone can look forward to, no matter what age. And although kids may not altogether understand the value or concept of setting realistic goals, like adults aim to, they still dream big—really big, in fact—and come up with some important, inspiring, (if sometimes silly) resolutions. Who knows if they will stick to any of these goals, but here are several memorable ones kids recently shared with me:

1. “I want to be president.” Lina, age 8 (my daughter)

2. “I want to win this Lego contest. You can build anything you want, and if they pick your structure as the best one, you’re the winner!” Alex, age 8

3. “I’m going to be on Broadway!” Suzette, age 6

4. “Probably I’ll learn to ride a two-wheeler. If I get the one I want.” Rose, age 5

5. “I’m going to be rich. How? I’m going to have a yard sale, and sell everything and make lots of money.” Tomasso, age 7

6. “I want my team to win our soccer tournament next year. We almost just won.” Zack, age 9

7. “There’s this car I really want, so I’m going to save up all year, and buy it. My dad said he’ll drive it for me. It’s a race car.” Benny, age 6

8. “I’m going to be an astronaut and go to outer space.” Grace, age 4

9. “I just want to play video games.” Ryan, age 11

10. “There are, like, a million things I want to do. I want to go to my friend’s house, I want to see two new movies, I want to play with all my new toys. I want to see my cousins. I’m going to go ice skating! Maybe sledding too, if it snows. So many things!” Kieran, age 7

11. “I want all my friends to come over to my house so we can make this movie we’ve been talking about. We wrote the script already. I’m going to be queen, and my friends are the robber, the other bad guy, my assistant, the two princesses, and the royal puppies. And I’m going to ask my mom to make a cake.” Leah, age 8

12. “I want to be a surfer.” Eric, age 5
