Ah, babysitters, nannies, and au pairs. What would we do without our caregivers? They allow us to work, go out with friends, have date night and sometimes, just get away from our crazy, but loved, kids. We asked these 12 moms what they love about their sitters. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself agreeing with their responses.

1.”What I love most about our nanny is that she only speaks Spanish to our son per our request. It would be so easy to lapse into English when he doesn’t understand (which is what I would do), but she’s persistent. I tend to think most of it goes over his head, but even if he just grasps a little of a second language, I’ll be internally grateful for her.” -- Martha, mom of one

2. “Honestly, I love our nanny because she does the laundry, cleans the house, and cooks our dinner. All things that would fall to me if she wasn’t around.” -- Elissa, mom of four

3. “Why do I love our babysitter? Because she keeps coming back.” -- Louisa, mom of five

4. “My three boys are a handful. We went through a slew of babysitters until we found Natasha. I don’t know what she does, but when we come home after date night, all three boys are sound asleep – in their own beds – and the house is straightened up. Love, love, love her.” -- Mary-Alice, mom of three

5. “I hate canceling on the sitter when the kids are sick. So, the next time she came – after I canceled twice -- I tried to pay her double, and she wouldn’t take it. She’s a good person. She gets that we’re all struggling and in the same boat.” -- Felicia, mom of two

6. “Nannies see the most intimate parts of a family, and they can either gossip with the other nannies about what they heard or saw, or like our nanny, take it to the grave. She knows I sometimes put the kids in dirty clothes (like when I forgot to wash Max’s soccer shirt), or that I sent my daughter to school with store-bought brownies when the teachers specifically asked to send something homemade. She’s like the FBI -- what happens in our house, stays in our house.” -- Anna, mom of two

7. “Our au pair -- on her first week with us -- volunteered to get rid of the lice the school found in my daughter’s hair. Need I say more?” -- Rosa, mom of one

8. “Our nanny is like a prison guard -- always on the lookout for manipulation (‘Can’t I stay up for just five more minutes? Mom lets me!’), fighting, and illegal substances (like gum). Nobody flies under the radar on her watch. She plays the bad cop, so I can play the good one.” -- Monica, mom of four

9. “She adores my children. And that’s enough.” -- Jackie, mom of three

10. “I love our nanny, because she allowed me to go back to a job I loved after having my baby.” -- Francesa, mom of one

11. “Our nanny makes my twins homemade baby food. I don’t even do that! In many ways, she’s like a third parent.” -- Lily, mom of three

12. “She’s dependable. If there’s even a hint that she can’t come to work -- because of the weather, or being sick or anything -- she lets me know asap, so I can find back-up care. For a working mom, that’s a lifesaver.” -- Colleen, mom of three
