It’s funny how, when you become a parent, suddenly everyone is an expert! Your child cries in a restaurant, and the waiter has a few tips on dining out with kids. Your kids run wild in a store, and the woman shopping next to you has some ideas on what you’re doing wrong to allow such behavior. And forget strangers – what about all your well-meaning relatives, best friends, and colleagues who think they have all the answers for you, when you never even asked them?

So, how do you keep your cool when you really want to tell these people off? Here, 13 moms share their best comebacks for unsolicited advice. After all, you don’t want to make the mama bear mad!

1. “I get advice all the time from my coworkers, and all I say is, ‘OK, great, but I am going to stick with what works for us!’” -- Nicole C., Norwalk, Connecticut

2. “‘Well, I guess every child is different!’” -- Evelyn B., Miami, Florida

3. “‘Last time I checked, I pushed her out!’” -- Alexis S., Riverdale, New Jersey

4. “What I say exactly is, ‘Thanks, that's very interesting, but recently I read some research supporting (insert my parenting choices here).’ It's funny, you can find supporting research on pretty much any opinion, so it's tough for people to argue back. Or I smile and nod and just do what I want because I am Mama!” -- Amy I., Stamford, Connecticut

8. “If it's good advice, I politely thank them. If it is bad advice, I use it as an opportunity to school them with an ‘actually, studies show...’ I love a good debate. And if you feel the need to butt in to my parenting, you bet your bottom I'm going to be willing to get into it with you.” -- Mary W., Stamford, Connecticut

9. “‘I didn't realize that you knew my own kids better than I do.’” -- Jen A., Kissimmee, Florida

13. “The other day, we were in a restaurant, and my son was just being a typical 2-year-old and acting out because he was bored in a restaurant. This guy behind us yells, ‘Shut up, control your kid!’ I looked at him in shock, rolled my eyes and said, ‘Are you kidding me? If it were that easy, then you do it!’” -- Melissa B., Orlando, Florida
