23 Signs a Mom Needs a Serious Break -- Fast!

As a working stay-at-home mom (not a typo!), I’ll be the first to admit that I could use a serious break. Like, now. You could wake me up in the middle of the night (probably up working anyway) and ask if I wanted to bolt on vacation, far away, for some alone time, and I would jump right up and run out the door. No questions asked, no time to pack. Who needs a suitcase?! I. Just. Need. A. Break. And I know I’m not alone. We moms are a really, really hard-working, full-throttle, stretched-thin bunch. We try to do it all, every day. We do. Weekends? What’s that, right? Vacation? Do moms actually get them?

If you’re having these thoughts (like me), or have experienced any of the following 23 telltale signs or symptoms, odds are very high you are a mom in need of a serious break, ASAP.

1. You’ve forgotten your kid somewhere.

2. You locked your dog out of the house.

3. You try to turn on the music only to find it's already on.

4. You can't remember the last time you spent a day with a friend.

5. You can't remember the last time you bought yourself something nice.

6. You still have New Year's decorations up in spring.

7. You can’t remember your zip code or phone number sometimes.

8. You clean up every day, but your house is still a black hole where you can’t find anything when you need it.

9. You can’t remember if you finished spring cleaning -- which you started at some point, but you’re not sure when.

10. Your family is excited when you don’t burn dinner for a change.

11. You are just happy to find two socks to wear. (Who cares if they match?!)

12. You can’t remember the last time the laundry was actually done. (Meaning, the bins were empty, for a full day.)

13. You can’t remember the last time you had less than five simultaneous URGENT to-do lists that you were working through all at once.

14. You are not sure when you last went out with your spouse.

15. Covering the dark circles under your eyes is your new idea of getting creative.

16. Talking to your dry cleaner is your new idea of a quick therapy session. (Yay for multi-tasking right?!)

17. A massage? What is that? Some French word? Translation, please!

18. If you can make it to the bathroom when you actually need to go, you feel like you’re on top of things.

19. You can’t remember where you parked your car.

20. When someone asks you how you’re doing, you’re not sure how to reply. How are you doing?

21. Those books and magazines you’ve been saving up for some good reads are making awesome end tables, at least.

22. You’re never quite sure what day or month it is anymore. They are all so busy, so what’s the difference?

23. When people mention taking a second honeymoon, your immediate thought is: “That sounds exhausting.”
