6 Ways Moms Feel So Much Better in the Spring & Summertime

Warm weather brings these moms many new and surprising joys and benefits.

When warm weather arrives ­– I mean really arrives – and you can hear birds chirp when you wake up, see the sun shining in through every window and walk out your front door without a coat, hat, mittens, and clunky boots and a snow shovel, everyone seems to heave a big, happy sigh of relief. It’s not just that the weather is nicer, and that the trees are green and the flowers look pretty. There’s something more to the change in seasons that’s sort of magical, and seems to affect everyone in some way for the better. Here, six moms share the ways sunshine and warmer temperatures make them feel better overall.

1. “The warmer weather and sunshine somehow makes it easier for everyone to get up in the morning when we need to, without wanting to just hide under the covers all day. Starting the day off with a spring in your step is just so nice to me.” -- Heather M., mom of one

2. “I just love the dampness of spring, after the dry, harsh, long winters here. My skin gets so itchy and annoying in winter, but when spring comes, along with all the other great things it brings, it seems to return all the moisture my skin needs to be happy.” -- Jill D., mom of three

3. “There’s something about painting my toes and wearing sandals or flip flops that just changes my whole attitude, all day long. You CAN’T get too upset in sandals or flip flops, I feel, about any silly little thing, the way I do when we’re cold and bundled up like Eskimos.” -- Veronica B., mom of two

4. “I wake up at 5 a.m. every day for work, and so springtime is just SO much nicer for me because instead of waking up in the freezing pitch dark, I wake up to sunshine and birds, and it gives me so much more momentum and motivation. It just changes my whole mood, for the whole day. I LOVE it!” -- Kristen R., mom of three

5. “When I get outside and garden every day, in spring, I am a calmer, happier person. … I guess just being outside and being surrounded by new growth and nature is just a nice way to spend some hours of your day. It’s relaxing and rejuvenating at the same time.” -- Maya D., mom of one
