7 Bad Habits I Can't Seem to Kick Since Becoming a Mom of Two

We all become more compassionate after having kids, but we also become ... less healthy!

It's no secret that becoming a parent changes you -- mostly for the better, but in some ways for the worse, too. Despite the fact that I've become wildly more compassionate, patient, and laidback since having my two kids, I've also picked up some pretty bad habits -- habits I'd love to kick.

Here, seven not-so-great habits I owe to my toddler daughter and baby son. Maybe I'll change my ways once they're in college?

1. I drink way too much coffee. Coffee, coffee, coffee. Give me alllll the coffee. Before my son, who's now 8 months old, I used to drink, oh, about two cups of coffee in the morning, give or take. Now? Yikes, I'm embarrassed to say, but it's definitely closer to four (sometimes five!) cups of coffee each morning. As I'm drinking it, I'm thinking about what a terrible habit it is and how much it's dehydrating me, but also ... I'm thinking about how awesome it tastes and makes me feel.

2. I've stopped looking in the mirror. I know, it's a cliché, but I swear there are days when it's 3 p.m., and I realize that I haven't yet looked in the mirror. I've brushed my teeth while getting my 3-year-old dressed. I've washed my hands at the speed of light while keeping an eye on my 8-month-old -- but a glance in the mirror? Nope! Of course, when I do wind up looking in the mirror at whatever time, I'm, unsurprisingly, shocked -- and not in a good way.

3. I've started falling asleep on the couch. Every night. As far as "bad" habits go, I know, there could be much worse ones, but it's a habit I never thought would be mine. I was always able to stay up late in order to finish whatever reality show or movie I was watching. Now? I barely make it past the opening credits!

4. I've stopped returning my shopping cart to the cart corral. Before I had two kids, I used to always run across the parking lot and place my shopping cart back in the little cart corral area so it wasn't in anyone else's way. Not so much anymore. With two kids to get in car seats, I often forget! (OK, sometimes I "forget on purpose.")

5. I rarely pick up my phone. Between working and two kids and running errands, I've become the person who never answers her phone. I hate it, but I can't seem to find the time for phone conversations anymore. I suppose I could dial up some friends at night when everything is done and the kids are asleep ... but I'm kind of preoccupied falling asleep on the couch, remember?

6. I eat worse. I have to say, chasing after wild children and tidying up my house has kept me in decent shape, but as far as what goes in my body, I'm not exactly the picture of health these days. It's hard to find the time to prepare healthy meals like I used to -- and if my daughter is eating mac and cheese, I definitely steal a few bites. Womp womp.

7. I've neglected my dog. Now that I'm a mom of two, I'm sad to say that I don't give my pup as many baths as I once did. He probably doesn't go to the vet/groomer as often either. Annnd his midday walk has been cut. Sure, he still gets in lots of play time with the kids, but he could definitely afford to get a little more exercise ... and a few more baths. (Sorry, buddy!)
