7 Kid Battles We Just Can’t Fight Anymore

7 Kid Battles We Just Can’t Fight Anymore

Moms, it’s time to raise the white flag and surrender.

By Leah Maxwell

Parenting can often feel like swimming against the current, where the current is your child’s sense of faulty logic and the water is quicksand. Sometimes the best you can do is just throw up your hands and vow to try harder tomorrow. If that sounds familiar, here are some of the ridiculous battles that have other moms raising the white flag in surrender.

1. Arguing with your child over whether the sippy cup of milk is literally half empty or half full. (Just drink it already!)

2. Allowing your kid to forgo sleeping in a comfy bed with cute sheets and soft pillows in favor of crashing on the floor, on top of a pile of hardback books, with his head resting on a pile of wooden blocks. (Hey, man, as long as you let me sleep, we’re cool.)

3. Trying to convince a preschooler that you are 100 percent for-really-real sure it’s not pronounced “beenut putter.”

4. Getting your child to wear matching socks and shoes. As long as there are two of each and they’re all being worn on her feet, let’s call it a win!

5. Giving your kid the win even though everybody knows paper beats rock.

6. Listening to that dumb song you hate for the seventh time in a row because at least it’s better than the wailing and lamenting that starts up when you turn it off.

7. Letting your kids skip tonight’s dinner vegetable because, well, honestly, you never should have gone with the rutabaga and kale soufflé.

What parenting battles have you given up on lately?
