Everyone loves weekends, but when you have kids, all that “free time” turns into one mad dash between sports activities, birthday parties, and cleaning projects. And before you know it, it’s Sunday night and time to get everyone ready for the week ahead. But here, seven moms share their favorite things to do on weekends when they can enjoy some real family time.

1. “Honestly, I just love to wake up at home with my family and not have to rush everyone out the door for work and school. I love the lazy feel of our weekend mornings together, snuggling with the kids, and not having to hurry to go in all different directions. To me, it’s the best.”

2. One mom loves going to the farmers’ market. “We bike there, we peruse the stands and say hi to all the farmers who have known my kids since they were babies. They get free apples, and we buy lots of food for the week, plan meals together, and if it’s nice, picnic in the park afterwards with some of our yummy finds.”

3. “Almost every weekend since we’ve had kids we’ve gone to the children’s zoo nearby. It's become this fun, weekend family tradition. I know I’ll miss it when they get too old for this and want to be with friends instead!”

4. Another mom says she loves hiking on the weekend with her husband and kids. “We live near lots of trails, and we go take long walks with the dogs. It’s so peaceful and heartwarming for me to be with them, enjoying nature. I think we all look forward to it all week.”

5. “I love baking with my kids,” says a busy working mom. “During the week, it’s mostly frozen dinner and stuff I'm not proud of, but on weekends, we go all out! We make scones, bread, cheddar biscuits, quiches, you name it … But the baking itself is a really fun, bonding activity. I can already envision my girls making the same recipes with their families when they are moms, down the road.”

6. “Our favorite weekend pastime is going to the beach. We kayak, paddleboard, or surf. We all love being on the water, and it’s the only time, other than summer vacation, that we get to just enjoy it together. It’s invigorating, fun, and relaxing all at once.”

7. One mom says they get together with extended family every weekend for Sunday brunch, and that’s her favorite time of the whole week. “No one schedules anything else. The priority is just being together, and I’m always so grateful for that special time with my family. It’s comforting. We share so much during those meals.”
