Sometimes as a mom, you tell little white lies in order to get a bit of R&R. These seven moms reveal the secret fibs they told in order to get a bit of down time.

1.“My gym offers day care for the kids while parents work out. As a stay-at-home-mom, I’m so exhausted that the idea of working out does not appeal, but some time away from the kids does. So, I drop them off and then sit in the steam room, then sauna and then take a super long shower -- I might even shave my legs -- before picking them up. It’s an hour of just me time.”

2. “My husband works late a lot and I pick up the slack, which is fine. But sometimes I feel like I want him to handle the dinner, bath, book, and bedtime routine, so he can see how tiring it can be. Last month, I told him I had to stay in the office late, then went to the local coffee shop, got a double chocolate chip muffin and mocha tea, and stayed there catching up on my latest book club read.

3. “I signed up for the PTA and I do like to be involved, but truth be told, some of the meetings are long and exhausting. At the last gathering, I canceled last minute and said my child was sick with fever. I then put my “sick” child to bed and stayed up watching trashy reality TV.”

4. “My mother-in-law always wants to go shopping with me to get clothes for the kids. I have boys, so they don’t care about clothes, and I don’t either. The last time she asked, I told her I had a meeting at school and could she take the kids and go without me? I then booked a massage at a spa several towns over, so there was no chance she’d run into me.”

5. “Weekends are family time in my household. But I can only go to so many soccer, tennis, and hockey games. At the last match, I asked my husband to take the kids so I could buy presents for upcoming kids’ birthday parties (he hates shopping for gifts). I had actually already ordered the items online the day before and took the time to go shopping for myself.”

6. “I had to travel to Florida for a work conference. I decided to book an extra night at the hotel and spent the last day relaxing at the pool and enjoying the warm weather. I just didn’t happen to mention to my husband that the conference ended a day earlier.”

7. “My coworker wanted me to stay late and work on a presentation, but I told her I couldn’t because I had my son’s soccer practice. Soccer ended the week before. Truth be told, it was an exhausting day and I was looking forward to the long train ride home to listen to some music and take a little cat nap.”
