9 Craziest Kid Phases Only a Mom Would Tolerate

Only a mom would endure these ridiculous behaviors … from her own kids.

No one knows better than Mom that kids, as adorable, wonderful, amazing, and bright as they are, can also act crazy sometimes -- and my kid is right up there with the best of them! Here, nine moms share our kids’ most ridiculous fixations and behaviors, and how we feel about them.

1. I have to start with my own kid here, Lina, because she inspired this article. She didn’t let me vacuum (when she was home) for the first three years of her life. She would scream: “Mama no vacuum! No vacuum! No vacuum!” To this day, I still cringe when I turn it on and she’s around, even though she could not care less now.

2. “My toddler insisted on carrying around a full-sized super soft blanket as her lovey, for two years, everywhere she went!” shares Kathy from Los Angeles, California. “It was so gross, all the time, and dragged all over. I had to wash it daily. I wanted to burn that thing!”

3. Helena, a mom to three kids under 6 from New York, says her children team up at bedtime every night still and “take turns screaming until about 2 a.m. I am not sure I’ll ever be the same when this is over. But I know it will end -- every phase ends, right?!”

4. “My daughter was potty training right when her little brother was born,” shares Erin from New York. “I don’t know if it was to get attention, but she refused to poop in the potty for an entire year. It was the worst year ever!”

5. Lauren in Brooklyn says her youngest, a boy, didn’t want to wear pants from age 1 to almost 2. “I cannot tell you what a challenge it was. Such a simple thing, but I almost lost my mind a few days trying to deal with it.”

6. “My kid won’t eat anything that’s not crunchy,” says Linda, also from New York. “He’s almost 4, and it’s a real challenge … I worry he won’t get enough nutrition! But the doctor says he’s growing fine.”

7. Astrid, a mom in Germany, says her daughter Andrea “insisted on wearing a cape for months, everywhere she went, when she was in preschool. She even wanted to sleep with it. I could not wait to get rid of it! Now I miss it sometimes…”

8. Susan, a mom of two from New York, says her little one pulled off his jammies AND diapers almost every night in his crib as a toddler. “I started not sleeping, just listening to the monitor trying to hear when he was up and at it, so that I could stop him before the mess began -- it was nuts. When it finally stopped, I took a three-day vacation and slept nonstop!”

9. “My daughter has the most beautiful wavy, thick, long hair but won’t let me brush it or cut it and still screams when I wash it -- and she’s 7 now,” says Ximena, from Argentina. “Some days, I think about cutting it while she’s asleep,” she confesses, “but I won’t, of course!”
