9 Things Toddlers and Yoga Pants Have in Common

Yoga pants and toddlers have a lot more in common than you’d think. Yes, pants and kids.

By Jeanne Sager

Ah, yoga pants. If you haven’t pulled on a pair of these form-fitting bottoms with the flip-over top, let’s get real: You’re missing out. Made from a stretchy fabric to accommodate the stretching and bending of the age-old exercise, the pants have become synonymous with motherhood in recent years because, well, show up at pre-school drop-off and you’re bound to see a whole lotta yoga-pant-clad moms.

No doubt there are moms who bought into the craze because they love them some downward dog, but maybe there’s something else (beyond that muffin top-treatment). Could it be that the toddlers they’re toting have an awful lot in common with the pants they’re wearing? Let’s dive into the similarities …

More from P&G everyday: Toddlers Are the Perfect Age to Learn to Meditate (It's True!)

1. Women swore they’d never end up with them. Pants with a nifty little fold-over that covers your jiggly bits. Little person who calls you “Mommy.” They’re both yours. Embrace it.

2. They inspire endless conversations about what’s appropriate to wear to the grocery store. No, honey, it’s not OK to wear one blue sock and one firefighter boot in lieu of pants. I’m sorry. As for you, dear friend, well, I guess if we’re just running to grab lunch at the deli, but did you really wear them to the parent/teacher meeting last week?

3. You wear them both. Toddler on shoulder. Pants on behind. Yup, sounds about right.

4. They rarely -- if ever -- go to yoga. Raise your hand if your ‘round the corner studio lets the 2-and-under crowd in the door. Didn’t think so.

5. They cost you big moo-lah. It costs approximately $245,340 to raise a kid in this day and age. Could that account for the amount of money mom’s spending on her pants? Well when you consider the hot pairs cost as much as $800, well ...

6. They’re so … flexible. Moms bend; their pants bend. Toddlers turn inside out and upside down and SOMEHOW THEY STILL SURVIVE. Miracles.

7. They’re up for anything. It should be naptime, but he’s still adamant that he can run around the local pizza place while you want to sit and have lunch with your old friend from back in the day. It should be laundry time, but somehow the black stretchy fabric is still clinging to your mid-section like you just pulled it out of the dryer. See the similarities?

8. They’re designed for bigger things. You’re exhausted on a Saturday morning and want nothing more than to sit in your comfy tummy-clenchy bottoms and watch cartoons with your 2-year-old. Both have far bigger things on the agenda.

9. They’re designed for exercise. Think a 3-year-old is nothing compared to an obstacle course? Think again …

And don’t forget to keep those precious yoga pants from stretching, fading, and fuzz with Downy Fabric Conditioner. But be sure to keep Downy out of reach of your toddler. It doesn't work wonders on them!

Spill…what does your toddler have in common with your favorite pair of pants?
