25 Quotes to Inspire Our Sons

A collection of must-read quotes to motivate, encourage, and inspire our sons!

By: Heather Chaet

I was texting with a friend the other day. She was relaying the news that her 10-year-old son had decided to slide into third base while playing a game of pick-up baseball in the park. What’s wrong with that, you may ask? Well, he slid on his left side, the side where he has a cast on his arm. Yup, he was sliding on a broken arm. It wasn’t the worst thing he could ever do, but it definitely made her ponder his decision-making skills just a bit. At the end, she typed, “What will inspire him to make the right choice when all of his friends may not?”

I know it was a rhetorical question, which is a good thing because it’s impossible to answer. There’s no tried-and-true playbook to navigate this part of the parenting game. Especially in the tricky tween/teen stage, helping our boys build an inner strength and align that moral compass to point in the “right” direction -- without them totally tuning us out -- is a biggie. But, it’s about as simple to do as brushing the cat’s teeth.

Inspiration is “the action or power of moving the intellect or emotions.” How are we supposed to move the intellect or emotions of our boys when we can barely get them to move their nasty socks from the floor to the laundry hamper?

Well, to start, here’s a little extra motivating mojo -- a list of 25 quotes from famous folks - authors, sports legends, and, yes, Gandhi -- to toss to your son to get the inspiration ball rolling.
