Every marriage is different, but most couples with kids can agree on at least one thing: Having a child changes a relationship. And as far as romance goes… well, ha! Couples often have to come up with unique ways that work for them to keep the romance strong while raising a child. Here, eight moms share their secrets to success in love and parenting.

1. “Lunch dates! My husband and I went on a celebratory one today. It's a chance to get together, eat out at restaurants we want to try, and we don't have to worry about finding a babysitter.”

2. “For a while, because we both work full time, we felt guilty leaving our daughter alone for a night. But we quickly realized -- especially with twins on the way -- that we need to make time for the two of us, and [we learned] not to be afraid to embrace babysitters. Now, we focus date nights not just on dinner, but on doing the things that remind us of ‘us’ before we had kids: seeing cool photography or museum exhibits, watching an indie movie we really wanted to see, or going in search of an exotic cuisine we haven’t yet tried.”

3. “We always take time when our daughter is in bed to spend time together, chat, or act goofy for a bit. We each also try to do little things for each other all of the time, like putting something away for the other or picking up something we think the other would like, etc.”

4. “I’m a big proponent of date nights or day dates! And I prefer that it takes place out of the house -- to have that physical separation between family time and couple time. My husband and I were married 10 years before we had our older son, so it's very important to us that we have our time together. To have the opportunity for an uninterrupted conversation, at the very least!”

5. “My husband and I escape whenever we can! We have gone on vacations without our kids. It's awesome. We get to reconnect, act carefree, and worry only about our own needs. There is just something about packing up and getting away for a few days that we have both grown to love and look forward to every year! And the best part is, my husband is the one who started it, and now enjoys planning and taking care of it for us.”

6. “Every night, we go up to bed together. No one stays up later than the other, and we fall asleep holding each other. It has become my favorite part of the day!”

7. “We have a standing babysitter every other Saturday.”

8. “I insisted my husband get a lock on our bedroom door. That way, even if it's way past our daughter’s bedtime, and she's most likely asleep, I know for sure we can have some privacy when we need it!”
