Putting the FUN in Fundraise

Discover fun ways to raise funds to help the P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program.

Looking for an exciting fundraising activity that not only contributes to a good cause but teaches life lessons as well? Look no further than this fun idea from the P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program (CSDW) Program.

Millions of people in the developing world, mostly women and children, have to walk many miles for several hours to reach their local, often dirty, water source. An easy way to raise awareness of this issue – and solutions to help address it – is to organize a walk to get your community talking about what the experience is like and what they can do to help.

Walks in partnership with a school or your community can create an active dialogue and accommodate significant number of participants, including other parents, kids, neighbors and local media. If your children can be involved in planning the event, they can develop their creative thinking, project management and leadership skills.

One local Cincinnati school group holds an event each year called Hands Across the Water that raises funds to provide clean drinking water to families in developing countries using P&G water purification packets. The Hands Across the Water Walkathon is a 6K walk, based on the average distance that children as young as 4 years old walk every day to collect water for their families.

The program also included a teaching component in the classroom where students studied and participated in hands-on projects regarding the water crisis. In the first year alone the walkathon raised more than $11,000 for the CSDW Program – enough to provide clean water for 11 villages for a year!
