With our busy lives and expensive economy, more and more people are choosing to drop the vacation and take a staycation. You still get to relax, sleep in and of course, skip going to work. The only real difference is that you are doing it at home instead of at an expensive resort.

Here are 5 do’s and don’ts to help you really enjoy your staycation.

Don’t Even Think About Cleaning
Just because you’re staying home doesn’t mean you have to do housework. Plan ahead and have the house completely cleaned, laundry done and all yard work complete prior to your vacation. You need to use your time to relax and have fun!

Do Your Research
Find out if there are any festivals, carnivals or fun activities going on in your area during your staycation. Take advantage of being local by getting your tickets ahead of time to save money and avoid standing in any long ticket lines.

Don’t Limit Your Staycation to Just Your House
Go outside. Go camping or swimming or just lay around and have a picnic. Go out and act like a tourist in your hometown, seeing the sights you’re usually too busy to notice.

Do Get Your Adrenaline Pumping
Get out of your comfort zone and do something that you normally wouldn’t do. You don’t have to jump out of a plane – just try something new, like golfing or boating.

Don’t Forget to Document
Just like you would a regular vacation, you’ll want to take photos and videos to remember all the fun you had on your relaxing, low-cost staycation.

Just like a real vacation, a staycation is a great way to spend time with your family and make great memories. Save the travel – and the costs – of a traditional vacation and enjoy a staycation instead.
