Football season is here. If you’re taking in a game, be sure to enjoy the rest of what the city has to offer.

Fall is here and that means cool weather, colorful leaves and football! If you are thinking about traveling to see a game with your family, consider these enticing destinations, which offer an NFL football experience plus plenty of other activities to keep your kids happy.

Atlanta, Georgia
A fall trip to Atlanta means great weather and cheering on the Atlanta Falcons in the Georgia Dome in downtown Atlanta. This unique stadium is the largest cable-supported dome in the world and hosted several events during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

The Falcons fun starts three hours before kick-off at State Farm Falcons Landing with free pre-game events including entertainment, appearances by Falcon cheerleaders and face painting.

For family fun outside the dome, consider visiting the Georgia Aquarium, which is the largest aquarium in the Western Hemisphere and home to tens of thousands of animals including colorful fish, whales and other marine life. Another fun kid’s destination is the World of Coca-Cola. The Coca-Cola Company is headquartered in Atlanta and this entertaining museum provides a history of Coke and even allows visitors to sample Coca-Cola beverages from around the world! If time allows and your kids still have energy, walk a few blocks to Imagine It! The Children’s Museum of Atlanta. This hands-on creative play place allows kids to use their minds and imaginations while they play.

Closest Hilton: Hilton Atlanta

Jacksonville, Florida
Watching a Jacksonville Jaguars game at EverBank Field is about more than football! EverBank Field went through a recent renovation and is now home to two 60-foot end zone video scoreboards – the largest in the world. In addition, one end zone has been transformed with two wading pools where fans can splash and cool off during the games.

While in Jacksonville, definitely take advantage of the balmy fall weather with local outdoor activities. The beaches in nearby Ponte Vedra Beach are wide and perfect for walking and bike riding. A fun thing to do that is unique to this area is hunting for sharks’ teeth, which you can do at Mickler’s Landing Beach Park in Ponte Vedra Beach where there is free parking, beach access and public restrooms.

For kid-centered fun, check out Adventure Landing in Jacksonville Beach, which is the kind of place kids dream of visiting on vacation. The water park portion of the park includes water slides of all heights, and they also have mini-golf, laser tag, a batting cage, a few small rides and an arcade.

For a family-friendly indoor activity, check out Jacksonville’s Museum of Science and History (MOSH) near downtown on the St John’s River. MOSH is an educational and entertaining destination for kids of all ages. From walking through a giant mouth to viewing a show in the country’s largest single-lens planetarium, there is something to inspire and educate everyone in the family.

Closest Hilton: DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Jacksonville Riverfront

Indianapolis, Indiana
Besides cheering on the Indianapolis Colts, visitors to Lucas Oil Stadium can experience one of only three stadiums with a retractable roof and the only one that opens and closes side to side. This stadium even has the first moving window in the NFL.

While in Indianapolis with kids be sure to check out The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. This is the biggest children’s museum in the world, and offers a wealth of information, activities and exhibits on science for the whole family. One particularly unique exhibit is Take Me There: China where you can “fly” over the Great Wall of China, “land” in Beijing and embark on a journey through contemporary China.

Another special activity in the area is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Indianapolis is known as host of the Indianapolis 500 and you can visit the Hall of Fame Museum at the racetrack and even take a lap around the track on a bus.

Closest Hilton: Hilton Indianapolis Hotel & Suites

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Philadelphia Eagles fans are die-hard fans and game day is a serious event. Tailgating starts early at Lincoln Financial Field in downtown Philly. If you want to build excitement with your kids before heading to the game you can sign up online for the Philadelphia Eagles Kids Club, the largest Kids’ Club in the NFL.

While you’re in Philadelphia think about taking in some of the historical sites in historic Old City. A good place to start is the Independence Visitor Center, which offers an overview of the city and is the place to pick up free timed tickets for a tour of Independence Hall later in the day. A walking tour of Old City is manageable even for younger kids and includes the Betsy Ross house, Elfreth’s Alley and the Liberty Bell. A great choice for lunch along this walk is City Tavern, a historic tavern where George Washington once dined.

For an indoor option in case the weather is cool, check out The Franklin Institute in Center City where you and your kids can learn about the brain with interactive brain teasers, climb a rock wall, ride a sky bike and see a planetarium show all in one afternoon.

Closest Hilton: Hilton Philadelphia at Penn's Landing

San Francisco, California
The San Francisco 49ers have a history of great football and catching a game in person makes for a perfect fall trip. Levi’s Stadium will also host this year’s Super Bowl 50 in February 2016. To get in the pre-game spirit check out Red Zone Rally at Great America where your purchased passes get you food and drinks in a private air-conditioned space along with free access to the Flight Deck roller coaster!

To make the most of your time in San Francisco, be sure to check out a few other family attractions. Pier 39 is an entertaining outdoor complex near Fisherman’s Wharf that is the most visited site in San Francisco. There are plenty of restaurants and stores for dining and shopping. If your kids are school age or older, Alcatraz Island makes for a fascinating excursion that includes a ferry ride to Alcatraz Island, a walk around the island, buildings, and gardens; and an audio tour of the former prison. If you’d like an educational museum experience check out the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park. This natural sciences museum focuses on “how to explore, explain and sustain life.”
