30 Minutes to a Clean Laundry Room

30 Minutes to a Clean Laundry Room

Your guide to cleaning the laundry room in 30 minutes flat.

By: Jennifer Lifford

The laundry room often gets neglected and can quickly turn into a dumping zone. Follow this quick, 30-minute plan to give your laundry room a thorough cleaning from top to bottom!

Gather and organize all of your supplies. Although this may take a few extra minutes in the beginning, it will save you time in the long run and will help to minimize any distractions. Here’s a basic supply list to get you started:

  • Laundry basket
  • Laundry hamper
  • Step stool
  • An empty basket or bin to hold items that don’t belong in the room
  • Microfiber Cloths (these will bring up dirt and hold on to dust much better than standard cloths)
  • All-purpose spray
  • Dish soap
  • Soft scrub brush or toothbrush
  • Vacuum

Sort through all laundry items. Fold and place clean clothes in the laundry basket (to be put away later) and place dirty items into the laundry hamper.

0:07
Quickly sort through the rest of the room and place all items that do not belong there into a bin or basket to be put away at a later time.

0:09
Remove any rugs or mats from the room and shake them off outside. Drape them over a railing to air them out while you are cleaning the rest of the room.

0:12
Using a dust cloth or vacuum attachment, remove any cobwebs from the corners of the room. Dust and wipe down any light fixtures.

0:15
Using a microfiber cloth and an all-purpose cleaner, wipe down any cupboard doors, shelving and countertops, as well as the outside of the washer and dryer (including knobs and buttons). Check the walls to see if there are any splatters from detergent or other marks that require cleaning. As you move through the room, clean from top to bottom and left to right to minimize your cleaning time.

0:18
Fill the sink with water and some dish soap. Remove any remaining lint from the dryer lint trap (you should get in the habit of doing this after every load) and wash the trap in the sink using a soft scrub brush or toothbrush. Using the narrow attachment on your vacuum, vacuum up any lint or debris that may have gone down the vent where the lint trap goes. Dry and replace the lint trap.

0:21
Remove the laundry soap dispenser from the washing machine and wash it in the sink. If you have a front loader, wipe down the rubber gaskets on the inside of the door with a microfiber cloth (this should ideally be done after every load). Scrub with a toothbrush if added cleaning power is needed. Dry and replace the soap dispenser.

Tip: Give your washing machine a thorough cleaning with our guide.

0:24
Run a slightly damp microfiber cloth along the baseboards to pick up any dust and dirt.

0:26
Sweep or vacuum the floor.

0:28
Take out any garbage and replace any rugs that you removed from the room.

0:30
Add detergent and a couple of cups of vinegar (to give your washing machine an extra cleaning), and run a wash cycle at the highest temperature setting.

Tip: Now that you’ve tackled the laundry room, clean your kitchen in 30 minutes or less. Or tackle the bathroom too!
