Basic Granola Recipe

Make our easy granola recipe and scrumptious add-ins for a wholesome snack.

Basic Granola Recipe
Makes: 5 cups

3 cups rolled oats
1 1/2 cups roughly chopped nuts and seeds
1-2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (or spices of your choice)*
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/4 cup vegetable oil, canola oil or olive oil
1 cup total dried fruit, chocolate chips and other fixings

*Tip: For brighter flavor, substitute fresh citrus zest for the spices.

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat
  2. In a large bowl, combine oats, nuts, cinnamon and salt, then mix well. In a smaller bowl, whisk together brown sugar, honey, vanilla and oil
  3. Pour wet mixture over dry mixture and with clean hands, toss until oats are thoroughly coated
  4. Spread granola evenly on prepared baking sheet, place in the oven and set temperature to 300 F (no need to preheat!). Bake for 30-45 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes, until browned to your liking. Keep in mind that it will crisp up as it cools
  5. Let cool on the baking sheet, then stir in dried fruit, chocolate or other fixings
  6. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one month

Granola Variation Ideas
Mix in your favorite dried fruits, nuts, spices and other fixings, or try one of our scrumptious combinations:

  • Cashews, sunflower seeds and dried cranberries
  • Walnuts and banana chips
  • Pistachios, sesame seeds and dried cherries
  • Hazelnuts, dark chocolate chips and 1/4 cup chocolate hazelnut spread stirred into wet ingredients
  • Apple chips, pecans and dried ginger
  • Cashews, dates and orange zest (Omit spices and stir zest into wet ingredients.)
  • Dried blueberries and white chocolate chips
  • Almonds and roughly chopped dried apricots
  • Roasted peanuts, raisins and 1/2 cup peanut butter stirred into wet ingredients
