Why You’ll Love Blueberries
Sweet, juicy and slightly acidic, fresh blueberries are a guilt-free fruit favorite. At about 84 calories per cup, they’re also an excellent source of antioxidants and vitamins. Enjoy a fresh handful or purchase them frozen.

How to Tell if Blueberries are Fresh
Blueberries should be firm and plump with uniform size and color. Look for a deep purple to nearly-black color with silver or white frost on the skin. They should be dry and free from leaves and stems. Overripe or old berries will have a dull appearance and be soft or leaking juice.

How and Where to Store Blueberries
To maintain freshness, refrigerate unwashed blueberries in a sealed container. Remove soft or blemished blueberries to keep others from spoiling. Store them between paper towels to keep them dry, but be sure to use within 3 days to a week at most.

How to Pair Blueberries
Blueberries complement the sweet and the savory. Traditionally, they’re delicious in muffins, pies and cakes. For a nutritional breakfast, sprinkle blueberries on yogurt or granola. On your next cheese plate, include them alongside some Brie or goat cheese. Or add a fruity twist to pork and chicken with a blueberry glaze.

Tip: For a simple blueberry glaze, simmer two cups of blueberries, 1 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of water in a skillet over medium high heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
