Ingredient of the Month: Pistachios

Inside pistachio shells, you’ll find buttery, crunchy nuts. Here, an in-depth look.

Why You’ll Love Pistachios
Crack open pistachio shells and inside you’ll find green nutrient-rich nuts with a sweet flavor and buttery crunch. Rich in calcium and filled with fiber, pistachios are a simple, sensible snack and add oomph to salads, sweets and more.

How to Tell if Pistachios Are Fresh
Look for pistachios with split beige-colored shells (which indicate ripeness) and bright green nuts. They’re highly perishable, so put shelled or un-shelled nuts in a plastic bag and refrigerate for up to 3 months or freeze un-shelled nuts for up to 6 months.
